Chapter 32. An adventure

Cain's P.O.V

I wanted nothing more than to go on vacation with my mate and sons, but there were more urgent matters to settle. Maverick avoided me like the plague after our little spat. I decided to surprise him before leaving for the trip. Alex and I got the boys ready, then left the house. Maverick had just returned from patrol when we barged into his office. He growled and yelled, "Leave me alone, Cain!" Alex chuckled and uttered, "How childish." Maverick wasn't in the mood to talk. He huffed and asked, "How can you live with yourself? You are sleeping with the man who put our mother behind bars." I sighed while looking at Maverick's sorry state. It seemed like the guy had a lot on his mind.

I sat down and declared, "Our dear mother is the cause of her demise. Don't walk on the path she did." Maverick glared at Alex and yelled, "You filled his head with utter nonsense!" I shook my head when Alex started laughing. I gazed into Maverick's eyes and said, "Stop acting like a crazy person and listen to us." Maverick looked at his watch and uttered, "This is getting nowhere. I have a meeting in a few minutes. Hurry up."

Alex was about to question Maverick when the guy smirked and said, "Wait. I'll talk to you, but not the head enforcer. The guy has to leave." I was startled when Alex pinned Maverick to the floor. Alex's powers were oozing out of him. I quietly watched the scene unfold. Alex grabbed Maverick's neck and stated, "Don't tempt me to shut you up, alpha Maverick. You were intolerable to begin with. You have gotten worse throughout the years. You are lucky that there are no worthy contenders for your position. I would have killed you long ago otherwise."

Maverick grabbed Alex's arm and uttered, "I yield, head enforcer." Alex let Maverick go and fixed his suit jacket. I sighed and asked, "Did you know about the sex clubs that enslave our kind, Maverick?" Maverick rubbed his face and replied, "Yes, I did. They moved their businesses whenever I tried to do something about it." Alex contemplated and asked, "Who did you talk to about this matter?" Maverick didn't want to reply. Alex slammed his fist on the desk and yelled, "Answer me!" Maverick gazed at me and answered, "I told the head elder about it. That jerk spread the news in town. Things got worse from then on." I scowled and yelled, "That guy has never been trustworthy, Maverick! How could you be so careless!" Maverick glared at me and said, "My brother wasn't around, so I had no one other than him to talk to."

I couldn't take Maverick's sarcastic tone anymore. I growled and replied, "You pushed me away by always taking our dreadful mother's side, Maverick!" Alex sighed and uttered, "I hate to ruin this touching moment, but we have to go. My assistant will contact you later. He will ask you some questions. Answer him truthfully if you don't want to lose your life." It seemed like Alex had already gotten what he came for. He grabbed my hand and said, "Let's go, Cain. Our family is waiting for us."

I smiled while thinking about the boys and said, "I haven't forgotten our bond, Maverick. I will talk to you upon my return from my trip." Maverick nodded and bid me farewell. The guy looked tense. I hesitated to leave. Alex kissed my cheek and uttered, "He'll be fine. There is a reason why he is the alpha king." I sighed in relief when I remembered Alex could foresee the future.

The boys were waiting patiently for us. We had lunch and then left for our journey. It took us minutes to reach our destination. Alex's father patted my back and said, "It was a good idea to teleport, Cain. Now, mask your presence before someone recognizes you." I changed my appearance and went to help Alex carry the luggage. I had booked a luxury lodge. The building was close to a river. The panoramic view was breathtaking. The boys ran into the lodge to pick a room. The manager of the estate arrived right after we finished packing. The guy was a werewolf. We didn't have to explain much. Mitch told us about the animals who relaxed by the river. We spent the first day watching the passing animals. It was hot, so the boys got tired quickly.

Alex's mother was about to serve us lemonade when we heard a loud bang. Alex pushed the boys behind him and said, "We are about to meet some strangers in a moment, kids. They are harmless people. Try to relax and smile." I had sensed the people as well. I tried to act as welcoming as possible. A man walked toward our lodge and said, "Good afternoon, everyone. I'm sorry to disturb you all, but I'm in a pinch here." I gazed at Alex and asked the man, "Can you tell us what happened? I'm Cain Roth, by the way, and this is my family." The guy chuckled and uttered, "Oh, where are my manners? I'm Kit Mercer. I'm here with my family as well. The radiator of the car I rented blew. I have no idea how to repair it. Can my family rest here while I look for a solution?"

I nodded and said, "Sure, we don't mind having more people over. The more the merrier, right?" Kit disappeared and returned with his male mate and three children. All boys. Adriel huffed and uttered, "They are all alphas." Alex stroked Adriel's head and stated, "They are nice people. I would have otherwise stopped them from approaching the lodge." Ethan kept staring at the boys. Adriel chuckled when Ethan said, "They are huge." Adriel grabbed Ethan's hand and stated, "They are older than us, that's why. Let's go say hi." The three boys introduced themselves properly to Adriel and Ethan. The boys were surprised to hear that they were triplets. The triplets were two years older than Adriel, but that didn't matter. They soon became friends.

Alex fixed Kit's radiator. The guy was over the moon with joy. Kit's mate told us they had been saving money for the trip for years. Alex's parents got emotional and asked the Mercer family to stay the night. The boys fell asleep after dinner. Alex and I visited the fireplace after putting them to bed. To our surprise, Kit and his mate were already there. The couple tried to leave when they saw us. Alex smiled and uttered, "Please, stay. There are drinks in the cool box. Enjoy the night." Alex dragged me to the beach. He laced his fingers through mine and said, "Thank you for the trip, darling. I needed it." I kissed Alex's temple and replied, "You are welcome love. Expect more of these trips after my term is over."

Alex chuckled and said, "I used to imagine us walking on the beach like this. After enjoying each other's company, I would go down on my knees and ask you to marry me. Fireworks would go off the moment you said yes. Oh, how have times changed? The only thing I want to do now is have a good night's sleep." I cupped Alex's face and kissed him passionately. Alex kissed me roughly back. He bit my neck and uttered, "It's such a shame that we have company. I would love to roll in the sheets with you tonight." I laughed and conjured a picnic blanket.

I laid the blanket on the sand and said, "Join me, Alex. Let's enjoy the cool breeze and the night sky." Alex plopped down and grabbed my hand. He forced me to lie down and put his head on my chest. I got emotional when Alex uttered, "I missed you so much, Cain." I was about to kiss Alex when I realized he was already asleep. I laughed when a baby elephant approached us. It was time to move to the bedroom. I was looking forward to the next adventure with my family. Everything seemed interesting whenever I was with Alex.
