Chapter 25. Sob story.

Cain's P.O.V.

Alex and I promised to meet each other every day. I was going to keep my word. I had hurt my mate enough. I got busy creating a spell to protect myself when I reached home. Theon had been growling the whole time. I sighed and uttered, "Stop snarling and help me find the right words." Theon huffed and replied, "Relax. I already took care of the problem." I couldn't believe my ears. I grabbed a knife and tried to stab myself. I laughed when the weapon shattered into pieces. Theon grinned and asked, "Are you surprised? My powers awakened when our mate kissed us. Something was holding me back. We won't get enchanted again. Let's go to the field. I have to show you my form."

I jumped out of the window and ran into the woods. I sighed in relief when my paws hit the ground. I had turned into a majestic wolf with gold-colored fur. I used to be small. I had the size of a truck now. Theon chuckled and declared, "No one can stop us now. We will protect our mate and child." I could feel someone's eyes on me. I turned around and growled, "Show yourself!" A man walked out from behind a tree. I could sense that he meant business. I took a stand and said, "Don't try anything."

The man sighed and stated, "Your mother failed to bewitch you, but I won't." The man conjured a staff and tried to cast a spell. Theon hardened his body and yelled, "Do your worst!" The man disappeared when the spell bounced back and hit him. I shook my head and uttered, "It's time for revenge." I went home after enjoying my freedom. I showered, then told the security guards not to allow my family into the house. I slept like a log that night. My phone rang early in the morning. I knew who was calling me, so I ignored it.

Flynn walked into my room while I was getting dressed. He greeted me and said, "Your father has been trying to reach you, sir. Would you like me to call him back?" I smirked and replied, "No. I don't want to see my family again. Pack their stuff and deliver them to the hospital. I have to be somewhere now. See you later." Flynn walked out of the room to carry out my order. I tried to sense where Alex was. I grabbed my jacket when I found him. Alex was observing some rogues at the headquarters. He looked stunning in his dark blue suit. I wanted to kiss my mate right there, but I controlled myself. Alex handled things perfectly.

I wanted to see Adriel. I forced Alex to take me home. I smiled when I saw the boy. Adriel was chatting with his grandparents in the garden. Alex's parents recognized me immediately. I smiled and uttered, "Good morning, Mr. and Mrs. Haile." Alex's father stood up and said, "Welcome, Mr. President. What can we do for you today?" I gazed at Adriel and replied, "I'm here to see Adriel. Would you guys mind if I spent some time with him?"

Alex's mother stroked Adriel's head and declared, "No, we wouldn't mind, but you should talk to his father first." Adriel was looking cutely at Alex. Alex groaned and said, "Sure, but stay here. Don't you dare go anywhere without my permission. I have to attend a meeting now. See you all later." Adriel gazed at me after Alex left. He scratched his head and asked, "Do you owe my father money, sir? I don't understand why the president would waste his precious time on me."

I laughed and uttered, "It's because you are my son, my dear child." You could hear a pin fall suddenly. Adriel slid down his chair and hid behind his grandfather. I chuckled when he whispered, "I think this man is a little cuckoo, Grandpa. Didn't Papa say my Dad was dead?" Alex appeared when I was about to address the situation. He grabbed Adriel's ear and said, "Don't ridicule the president and don't lie. I never said your father was deceased." Alex glared at me and asked, "How could you bombard him with the truth like that? Adriel is still a child. We need to ease him into things."

I sighed and replied, "I'm sorry, Alex. I just wanted to call him mine." I was startled when Adriel hugged me and said, "It's alright. I sensed our bond when you held me last time. I always wanted a complete family. My wish came true." I couldn't help but cry when Adriel kissed my cheek. I kissed Adriel's head and uttered, "I'll make it up to you for all the six years I missed. I promise." Alex stayed home for the rest of the day. I played with Adriel to my heart's content. It was soon time for me to leave.

Adriel hugged me and asked, "When will you be back, Daddy?" My heart melted when my child called me "Daddy." I didn't want to part with my child and mate, but I didn't have any other choice. It was too soon to introduce Adriel to the world. I explained things to Adriel and left. Flynn was waiting in my office when I returned. He handed me a file and said, "Your brother would like to meet you, sir. He is waiting for you at the lake." I wondered why Maverick didn't just call me. I didn't want to see Maverick, but I still went. I sighed when I saw my brother. He was standing on a cliff in his wolf form. Maverick tackled me and asked, "Why did you ban our parents from visiting you?" I kicked my brother and answered, "Because I remembered the things they did to separate me from my mate. And this is just the beginning."

Maverick bared his teeth and growled, "It was to keep our family safe. Do you even know what we had to do to keep you alive?" I changed into my human form and said, "That's enough. How will I know if you people don't tell me anything?" Maverick changed his form and stated, "Sit down. What I'm going to tell you is not for the faint-hearted." I sat on the grass and said, "Speak the truth." Maverick sighed and uttered, "You almost died with your best friend all those years ago. We found you with your intestines hanging out of your stomach. We had to make many sacrifices, but it was worth it. You opened your eyes after seven days. No one knew what happened that day. We only realized Alex was involved when the police questioned him. Dad kept him around to keep an eye on him. Imagine our surprise when you told us Alex was your mate. It was the same guy who tried to kill you."

"Mom and Dad vowed to keep him away from you. I couldn't blame them because I love you dearly as well. We were happy to join hands with Alex's uncle when he approached us. Everything we have done until now was according to his plan. He showed us our future, Cain. We will all die gruesome deaths if you get close to Alex again. I love my family, and I don't want to lose them. Please stay away from Alex. I beg of you, Cain." I contemplated and asked, "So you want me to sacrifice my happiness for you all? You must be kidding." Maverick scowled and yelled, "You selfish prick!"

I shook my head and uttered, "Don't worry, brother. Nothing will happen to your happy family." Maverick was about to retort when his beta appeared. The guy didn't even spare me a glance. He bowed and stated, "Aidan and his mate are under attack, alpha king. It seems like the head enforcer is out for their blood." Maverick changed into his wolf form and growled, "I'll kill the bastard if my brother and his husband get hurt!" I sighed while looking at Maverick. The man was in for a surprise. Aidan and his mate had dared to smuggle something dangerous into the country. You must pay for their sins, no matter who you are.
