Loveless

I've been meaning to reread the book Loveless by Alice Osman for a while now especially since the main characters are in their first year of college and I'm going to be in my fist year of college come August.

Anyways the point I wanna talk about os I just saw a video of this girl talking about queer books she does not like, loveless was the topic of this specific video. So, spoilers ahead if you haven't read loveless.

Now, she did make some fair points about the non a-spec rep like the Latina representation with Pip and the pan representation with Rooney, I feel like I sorta disagree with those  but it's not something I'd fight anyone over since I'm not pan, lesbian, or Latina.

But one thing I will argue on, is her discourse with the aroace rep. I don't think this girl is aroace, for one so it makes it easier for me to wanna disagree. One of her problems was that in the book Georgia tells her best friend Pip she wishes she were a lesbian and she called it like "oppression Olympics" and said "no you don't wanna be gay. It gives those straight girls who say they wish they were gay" and I don't necessarily wish I were gay, but there are times I wish I was anything but aromantic and could feel romantic feelings for somebody.

And i think people have said they thought they were gay or pan or bi but turns out they're aroace, which could also have something to do with it.

And then she had a problem with Georgia dating Jason, her other best friend as like a way to test if she could feel romantic or sexual feelings and I'm like you're very much supposed to not like that about Georgia. That's the whole point of character growth and character flaws and watching the main character make mistakes. Like yeah what she did to Jason was not cool. But people make mistakes especially when they're trying to figure things out. The book would be really boring if Georgia didn't make mistakes.

So her points on like the other stuff were fair, and she was very nice in her video and said that she understands that this being one of the only aroace rep book is very important so it's not like a waste of time to read and her main problems with the book seem to be the other representation with the Latina and pansexual representation.

So that's all I have to say. I'm probably gonna reread loveless soon.

That's all I have to say, thanks so much for listening. I hope you all have an amazing day, I'm wishing you the very best. Take care 💚💜
