Edison Mathers, looking tall, well-dressed and commanding, walked into the DC Metropolitan Police Department, carrying a briefcase. He was greeted at the front desk by a police officer. "Good morning, Mr. Mathers."
"Good morning, Officer Kirkland," Ed Mathers replied, with a smile. Ed was fairly well-known at the station by many who worked there. They knew somewhat of his impressive background as having worked for years as a former CIA attorney, and now of his judicial prowess outside of the CIA. "I have an appointment to speak with Detective Willis." he stated to the officer. Detective Willis was one of the department's lead detectives.
The Officer pushed a button on his phone, connecting with Detective Stan Willis. "Stan, Attorney Mathers is here to see you. Should I send him back?"
"Yeah. I'm expecting him. Send him back."
After their initial greetings, for the next hour or so, Ed Mathers and Stan Willis along with Stan's detective partner, Detective Byron Dodge, met in a private room specifically set up for meetings such as this, away from the normal hustle and bustle of the otherwise very busy police station. They were able to get right to the matter at hand as Ed had previously filled Detective Willis in, the day before, on why he wanted to meet with him.
Willis, in turn, had relayed to his work partner, Detective Dodge the gist of why they were all meeting that morning. It was all standard procedure. It had been made clear that Ed was filing formal charges on behalf of a client.
Together, the three men reviewed the array of evidence Laurent had presented to Ed Mathers the day before. Stan Willis and Byron Dodge were two of Metro DC's finest, most seasoned detectives. Their own individual caseloads were overflowing so they knew and could appreciate a slam dunk case when they saw one. This appeared to be one of those cases.
The evidence Ed Mathers presented was overwhelming and compelling, which meant there would be less they'd have to do with respect to investigating this case. All agreed that Laurent's abduction alone, all caught on clear video and audio was indisputable. Less work for them was always good work to them.
There was more than enough evidence presented to bring Evan Maurice Ferguson and Malek Eugene Stansfield in for questioning. And since the evidence clearly indicated them as the identified perpetrators, as was standard procedure, they would be called in for questioning to get their side of the allegations. The two would be read their rights based on the just cause evidence so far presented, that revealed little to no disputing their guilt, at which time they would be formally charged.
Before their meeting ended, Detective Willis had one of their police staff perform a records check in their system for both Evan and Malek to add to their evidence file. Once the results of that records check were received, it was just as Attorney Mathers had assumed, based on what his client, Laurent had told him. Neither Evan nor Malek had a criminal record. Both appeared to be respected, upstanding members of their community.
