By 3:15 p.m. the following day, Laurent, having left for work earlier that morning, his SUV packed with his mission gear, was now on his way to the airport. He'd made arrangements to leave work early. He was anxious to meet up with Garrett, Shane and Wyatt to get on with their mission.
Rush hour traffic had picked up. It was Friday afternoon. Travelers were already starting to leave work, or leave town ready to start the weekend. Laurent had made good time however, avoiding the worst of the traffic. He arrived at the short-term parking lot with ample time to park his vehicle and take the shuttle over to the terminal that serviced the private jet owners as well as the private jet charters, and those renting private jets.
Laurent had to go through security. He presented his identification along with his license to carry a concealed weapon. He'd flown on private jets for both professional and personal reasons many times, so he was aware going through security might not be required, that he'd only have to show his ID and indicate he was a passenger, identify the pilot, and he was good to go. In that regard, his name had been provided to TSA by Shane and as such, once Laurent showed his identification, he was allowed to pass through security without the usual delay of long lines and the other restrictions otherwise associated with flying commercial.
As planned, by the time he arrived at the gate, Shane and Wyatt were already there, busy conducting their flight checks. They greeted each other with big smiles and hearty bro handshakes. Their excitement was palpable to all of them, especially Laurent, who was beyond happy he could finally lay his frustrations to rest. He was going to get to see his bunny again and bring him home. He hoped this would also set things in motion that would initiate the raids previously planned to bring Sandoval to justice.
"Wow," Laurent said, to Shane and Wyatt, chuckling at first as he stood looking up, admiring their...transportation before he boarded the sleek, black jet with the mini racing strips. "This is some piece of hardware."
Shane and Wyatt smiled. "Wait until you see inside," Wyatt said. "Head on inside, Laurent. Get comfortable. Garrett should be here any minute."
Once inside, Laurent perused his surroundings. "Very impressive," he uttered to himself. Soon, Wyatt and Shane joined him inside. They all took seats to wait for Garrett. "Now I understand what Garrett meant when he said I hadn't seen it yet," Laurent said. "This is definitely an attention grabber. Even a military plane such as a C-130 sitting out on a commercial flightline would have paled in comparison."
"Yeah," Wyatt agreed, smiling, spreading his arm. "Garrett's latest pride and joy. He'd probably sleep with it if it could fit in his bed." The comment solicited hearty laughter all around. "Laurent, he calls it...Black Mamba."
Laurent laughed, shaking his head. "Garrett always did have a flair for the dramatic."
Continuing his perusal as he further admired now the full layout of the inside of the jet, Laurent took in the sleek, cream-colored interior before finding a place to drop his bag and start changing into his gear. Within ten minutes of Laurent's arrival, Garrett arrived. He and Laurent exchanged a hearty greeting. By then, Shane and Wyatt were finishing up their flight checks in the cockpit. Garrett then greeted Shane and Wyatt busy in the cockpit before he dropped his bag on one of the chairs and he too started to change into his gear.
Once all the men were outfitted, Garrett distributed the applicable extra equipment to each man. Each man double checked their gear, making sure the masks fit snugly and everything was working as it should. They then ran through another quick summary of their plan. Afterwards, they sat for a short while, sipping coffee and munching a quick snack before it was time for them to secure the plane and head to the runway to await authorization for takeoff.
