I stepped out of the walk-in closet, glancing at the clock. Fifteen minutes past nine already. I guess I won't easily overcome my struggle with waking up on time. It feels like a routine now.

I shrugged, letting my gaze drift to the bed, where my husband, Aviraj, lay sleeping. Great, I have a competitor. No, rival actually. But he's an early riser, unless he stays up late at night for his work.

"Aviraj, wake up," I said, slightly shaking his shoulder.

He stirred in sleep, his eyes slowly opening to lock onto mine. For a moment, we just stared at each other. His morning hair was a mess, but those brown eyes were captivating, especially in the morning haze. I felt a flutter in my chest, but quickly pushed it aside.

Taking my eyes off him, I reminded myself of my mantra of not getting pulled towards him. Of course, I can do that.

Easier said than done, a voice in my head mocked, only to get ignored.

Without another word, I turned back, walking to the dressing table. I focused on my morning routine, despite being aware of his lingering gaze on me. As I finished getting ready, his voice broke the silence.

"I have a meeting today, and I am late. Will you please lay out my clothes?" He requested, making his way towards me. His tone was polite enough to irk me. Another day, another excuse.

"I am not your personal assistant," I replied, without bothering to face him. "So please ask someone else, and excuse me."

I tried to get away, but my steps halted when he held my wrist. What does he want now?

"What has changed, Tarini? You used to do this for me without hesitation." I felt a surge of annoyance hearing his choice of words.

'Because earlier I was a fool,' I wanted to snap, but decided against it. Let's say, nothing is going to make a difference to the man who understands only business and not emotions. And do I really need to remind him what changed and who is the reason?

"Bas kuch aadato ko haalat badal dete hai aur kuch ko sabak. Instead of wasting time in the same old conversations, you can do your work yourself." I said firmly, facing him this time. Our eyes met briefly before I jerked my wrist free, leaving him standing there.

(Some habits change due to circumstances and some due to lessons.)

Walking out of the room, I heard him let out an audible sigh and murmur something. I didn't bother to listen. This daily charade was becoming exhausting.
