Shirina and Jivika exchange a perplexed glance, their eyes darting to Tarini, who stood across them, buried in her own thoughts. She was preoccupied with the shocking revelation that had unfolded earlier, her sight fixed out of the window of the hospital waiting room.
Tarini had been just trying to put together the pieces, when Aayansh had stepped back. He hadn't been able to stand there any longer, and had turned to leave.
Sensing his turmoil, she had followed him without a word. Though she wanted to know the truth, to wait for the mystery to unravel, she knew she couldn't stay. It was something that didn't belong to her, something that wasn't hers to witness.
Aayansh hadn't heard her calls to stop, racing down the stairs mindlessly. It was only when they reached the lobby, he had ended up colliding into Aviraj, who had grasped him firmly. The others had also assembled around, but Aayansh had remained unresponsive.
On his brothers inquiry, the only words that had escaped his lips were "She's alive," coming to terms with what he had seen.
He had walked away with an unsettling reluctance, and Tarini had encouraged Aviraj and Abhyudit to go after him. They had to find out, and she couldn't be the one to disclose it to them.
"How can this be possible? Aayansh had told me that his mother and sister died in a fire accident at their ancestral house. It was about a year before we met, I guess, so that would make it roughly 15 years ago." Jivika was astonished, unsure how to take the chilling revelation Tarini had made.
"Maybe she escaped the accident and had been alive all these years," Shirina suggests, but her next question adds to the growing list of their unanswered queries. "But why would their mother leave her family behind then?"
Tarini's trance-like state begins to break, and she looks at them briefly, processing their words.
"Or what if she was someone else? You didn't hear her say something or respond. You know people can have resemblance..." Jivika spills the possibility, her film-inspired prespective kicking in, but she leaves her sentence incomplete, seeing Tarini shake her head in denial.
"She's their mother," Tarini says conclusively, the image of her eyes flashing in her mind. It was undeniable. Her presence, tears, shock, and the recognition from both Aayansh and Sidharth had said it all, even without her uttering anything.
"That makes the girl she was talking about their sister," Jivika utters, referring to Devanshi, the picture of Aayansh's unresponsive state flashing again in her mind.
"Shall we go and see them?" she asks, but her phone rings at the same time. She glances at the screen to see her mother's name flashing for the third time since evening.
"They all must be waiting. It's getting late for you. You should head back," Tarini advises, noticing the screen.
"But I can't leave you like this." Jivika hesitates, knowing Aviraj wasn't there, and Tarini won't leave without him, even if her discharge formalities were completed.
