"Jivika, come down, breakfast is ready." Mumma's shout pierced through the air, interrupting my frantic pacing in my room.

"I'm coming," I yelled back, dropping my hand to waist in exasperation.

I was running late. Again. I hadn't overslept, but I was in a panic because I couldn't find my crucial pen drive, which I desperately needed. And, to make matters worse, I had a knack for misplacing things, even when I had carefully stored them in 'secured places'—which, ironically, I always seemed to forget.

I scanned my room, searching every nook and cranny for the pen drive. My gaze landed on the bed drawer, the last remaining spot I hadn't checked.

I trudged over, my feet heavy with reluctance, and pulled out the drawer. I rummaged through the contents, my fingers stumbling upon the pen drive. Just great!

I collapsed onto the bed, huffing in relief. I was about to close the drawer, when my sight fell upon a bracelet, carelessly discarded admist the clutter.

I picked it up, my fingers tracing the heart pendent with the words "AJ × Infinity" engraved onto it.

It was more than just a simple accessory. It was a reminder of a bygone era.

I used to wear it everyday, everywhere—keeping it close to myself. As if it was a part of my existence. But that was in the past. Now, the memories associated with it felt like a burden I couldn't shake off.

I was tempted to fling the bracelet aside, to discard the memories that lingered with it. But, I realized I wasn't strong enough to let go. Not yet.

It was Aayansh, who gave it to me on the day of our high school farewell.

He made me wear this after teasing me mercilessly beforehand. I chuckled at the recollection, realizing that beneath his confident and cool exterior, Aayansh Sisodia had been shy about giving a gift to a girl—a secret he never openly acknowledged. But I just knew.

"You know, you are my one and only best friend, my crime partner," he had said, his words laced with sincerity, "this is a promise of our lifelong togetherness, and a reminder that I will always be there by your side. Tere bina mera guzara kaha hai waise bhi."

(Anyway, my life can't go on without you.)

His promises were genuine, but they lost their real meaning over time. We were no longer friends, and the thought of togetherness seemed like a distant memory.

The fact that it will never be the same again pricked my heart.

My mind wandered back to the day when everything had begun, the day our journey had started. The memories came flooding back, and I was transported back to the time when life had been simpler, and friendship had been pure and precious.
