"I want you to go with me as my date."
It took me a moment to process his words before I burst out laughing, thinking he was joking.
"Ho gaya? Chalo jao ab." I waved him off casually, pointing to the door.
(Are you done? Now leave.)
But Aayansh's expression remained impassive.
"I am serious, Jivika," he said, his eyes narrowing slightly as he passed me a glare that made me stop laughing.
I furrowed my brows, skeptical. Did he really expect me to believe him? After all, he had made it clear that my presence was unbearable to him.
I decided to test his seriousness, rising my hand up to check his temperature. However, he jerked away, irritated.
"It's not a big deal, and it's not like you have anyone else to accompany you. We can go together," he continued, his voice a matter-of-fact.
I scrunched up my nose in distaste. He knew I don't have anyone else, and that stung.
"Hello, even if that's the case, then what?" I asked, rolling my eyes.
"See, I was right!" he muttered with a chuckle.
Feeling a surge of annoyance, I growled, "Toh isme konsa teer maar liya tumne? Kuch bhi ho, mai toh kya, meri aatma bhi nahi jaayegi tumhari date ban kar."
(Does it make any difference? And forget about me, my ghost would also not agree to be your date.)
"Kehne wali baat toh nahi hai, par tum konsa kisi chudail se kam ho." His lips curled into a sly grin, and my face burned with anger.
(It's not something to say, but you are no less than any witch.)
I stomped my foot on ground, pressing, "Ab toh mai kisi haalat mein nahi jaungi."
(Now I won't go with you at all.)
Aayansh shrugged, and took a seat, unfazed by my refusal.
However, something striked me at the same time, and I inquired, "Talking about you, you have a lot of people who could accompany you, right? Why don't you go and ask them instead?"
"You think I would be here if that was the case? No one else is available, so I have no choice," he replied plainly, and I felt speechless at his audacity.
'Did I expect something from him?' I questioned myself, taking in the reality that I was his last option, and not the first choice.
"Hey, Jivika, I got coffee for you." Rachit's timely interruption saved me from responding.
I passed him a grateful look and was about to take the cup, when Aayansh snatched it from Rachit's hand.
He took a sip, spitting it out instantly, and made a bad face.
