Alina Nightshade rarely says the word "sorry." She's certain it's not even in her vocabulary, and she doubts she could make herself say it, even if she truly means it.

That's why she's slipping a few new rings into Barty's bag before they leave for Hogsmeade.

Alina knows he will recognize they're from her.

Despite knowing Barty better than anyone, she still can't bring herself to say "sorry," even though she means it wholeheartedly. Gifts are the only way she knows how.

Maybe it's because her father sometimes buys her things after she's seriously injured. It's his way of saying sorry. Sorry that he hurts his own daughter and allows his wife to hurt her even more.

Alina watches as Barty half-laughs at something Evan has just said in the Slytherin common room.

She also means the words she said in the Great Hall just days ago: that it's not an option for her. It's the truth.

Dating is not an option for her.

Alina is not normal. Even if she weren't a seer, she is not normal. Dating and friends with certain people are not options.

Alina pushes back her light-colored hair before grabbing her bag and leaving the Slytherin common room, making her way to the courtyard to give Professor McGonagall her permission slip.

Her outfit consists of a tight black shirt and skirt, with a small belt that has a silver snake on it, along with a few silver rings displayed on her pale skin.

Alina soon makes her way outside.

Many students mill about, all slowly beginning to make their way to the village for the day.

McGonagall stands near the entrance of the castle, quietly talking with another professor.

Alina quickly hands her the permission form before starting her walk to the village.

"Sunshine!"

Oh, she is going to kill someone.

Why does he have to see her? Alina keeps walking. Sadly, he seems to walk fast.

And it's not just him, it's his stupid friends too.

James Potter has a smile on his face that is almost blinding. For once, his glasses are perfectly on his face, and he smells like berries—a deep, rich scent. It makes her hate berries.

He wears a loose red shirt, slightly unbuttoned at the top.

Sirius is laughing at something Remus has said. He has on eyeliner—honestly, she wishes she could be skilled enough in makeup to do eyeliner.

Peter is a few steps behind, nervously playing with his hands as he joins them all.

"Stop calling me sunshine, and leave me alone," Alina finally speaks, breaking out of her thoughts as she continues towards the village.
