Alina stares up at the ceiling. It is silent. Too early for many to be awake.

The dungeons are cold, as usual. The chill raises small goosebumps on her skin.

She can't sleep.

Another vision of Death Eaters.

She knows much more about the dark and light sides than most. Knows that the dark side worships the Dark Lord.

His name she does not know, nor does she care to find out.

Her parents aren't deeply involved in the dark side, but her father is heading down that path. Alina can tell.

The secret meetings he has in his office, with those she knows are Death Eaters, are a clue.

Her mother doesn't really care.

The light side follows Dumbledore.

The Order, as they like to call it.

No one has told her these things; her visions have.

Alina lets a small sigh escape her lips before she gets up from her bed.

It is early, about an hour before breakfast starts and classes begin. Still, her mind will not let her rest.

Alina gets ready quickly, pulling on a pair of tights before putting on her skirt and tucking a white long-sleeve shirt into it. She fixes her tie swiftly.

She places a black headband into her hair, pushing back the short strands. The ends of her blonde hair are slightly curled.

Her thoughts drift to her mother's hair.

Sometimes it makes her want to chop off all of her own hair, knowing they share the same locks.

Other times, it makes her want to grow it out long.

But she isn't allowed to. Her mother has forbidden it, just as she has forbidden her from buying anything at Honeydukes or purchasing clothes she doesn't approve of.

They have an image to maintain. An image of perfection.

Alina slips on a pair of sleek black shoes before grabbing her bag and leaving her dorm. A few students linger in the common room, some studying or quietly chatting.

Alina leaves the common room and makes her way through the Hogwarts corridors to go outside for a small walk. The sun is already warm and bright in the sky by the time she steps outside.

It is nice out. And for once, she finds herself actually enjoying it.

The silence is soothing as she walks slowly.

Dumbledore has granted her permission to be outside Hogwarts grounds and to walk around at night if needed. For that, she is thankful.

It does help sometimes.

When her mind is focused on unraveling her visions, a walk helps clear her thoughts.

Alina breathes in the fresh air before her eyes catch sight of someone running.

The boy is running in her direction. Alina narrows her eyes and steps aside.

Sadly, he trips right in front of her. It is then she realizes who it is.

Her lips tug into a small smirk as James Potter yelps upon colliding with the ground.

"Potter," she says, unable to hide the slight amusement in her tone as James looks up at her. Alina tilts her head down at him, and James' face flushes before he stands up quickly.

"Sunshine," James smiles brightly at her, pushing back his brown hair.

"That's a stupid nickname," Alina says with a blank face.

"Well," James shrugs with a smirk. "It fits."

"It really does not." Alina shakes her head with an annoyed sigh. "Goodbye, Potter." Without waiting for a reply, she turns and makes her way back to the castle.

So much for a peaceful walk.

Alina enters the halls of Hogwarts and slowly makes her way to the Great Hall for breakfast.

She wonders why it seems that James Potter is appearing in her daily life more often now. Perhaps it is a prank. She will have to stay on edge and be cautious of him and his friends.

"Stop it!" a young voice calls from the hallway to her left. Alina peeks around the corner.

A young girl, probably a first-year, is trying to pick up her books while two older Slytherins and one older Ravenclaw taunt her.

The young girl reaches down for her books, but the older Slytherin boy kicks them away with a cruel laugh.

Technically, she is a prefect. She has to stop this.

She hates being a prefect.

Alina turns and walks down the hallway. The three older students look up, panic flashing in their eyes.

The two Slytherins relax at the sight of her Slytherin tie.

Idiots.

"Leave her be," Alina says coldly as she steps behind the young girl.

"And why should we listen to you?" the older Slytherin asks with a laugh, tilting his head, his blonde hair shifting.

Alina smirks slightly. "I could always tell your mother how you were seen shagging a Muggle-born if that's what you want."

The boy's eyes widen slightly.

"Detention for all three of you," Alina says. "I am a prefect, so you have to listen. I'll leave your detention with Professor Slughorn."

All three students leave, muttering under their breath.

Alina rolls her eyes before looking at the young student. "They shouldn't bother you again."

The young girl, with wide eyes and auburn hair, says, "Thank you."

Alina simply nods before walking past the girl and continuing to the Great Hall.

Someone moves to stand in front of her.

She digs her nails into her palm as James Potter blocks her path.

"Didn't know you could be so nice," he teases with a slight smirk.

"I'm a prefect," Alina replies. "I'm required to help."

"Sure," James says, narrowing his eyes slightly and nodding with a smile. "Whatever you say, Sunshine."

Alina rolls her eyes at the messy-haired boy before walking past him.
