Alina replays the vision in her head once more. A forest on fire, people screaming, running away.
The vision jolted her awake.
When she was younger, she tried to prevent the deaths she foresaw. If she saw someone die in her visions, she tried to help, but there were only so many times she can intervene.
And with greater things, like death, there is no stopping it once it lays its claim on a soul.
She knows that.
Most small visions don't repeat, only a few bigger ones have, but there is one that always repeats.
There is one vision that haunted her for as long as she can remember.
A burning room.
At first, the burning room terrified her, but now it has become oddly comforting. Such a familiar vision.
Alina gets out of bed and quickly gets ready for the day.
Her back and torso are marked with scars, some from being pushed into things, others more deliberate.
She finishes dressing and brushes through her short hair before putting on a pair of shoes.
Then she makes her way to the great hall for breakfast.
Alina enjoys having a dorm to herself, though she is surprised no one has found it yet. There are likely charms to deter people from entering.
Sitting down at the Slytherin table, she immediately grabs a pomegranate from a bowl.
Alina loves pomegranates.
If she has the capacity to love anything, it is pomegranates. She carefully removes the top, breaks it apart, and mixes most of the seeds into some yogurt.
Her eyes meet James Potter's across the great hall. He is staring at her.
Alina arches a brow, and James's face flushes as he turns to Sirius.
Merlin, she hopes they aren't planning a prank on her.
She has managed to evade many of their pranks over the years, often by taking long, winding routes.
Finishing her yogurt, she sees Barty and Regulus walk into the great hall.
Alina grabs last year's potions notes from her bag and hands them to Barty with a small nod before leaving the hall for her first class.
Seconds later, she hears footsteps behind her.
Alina ignores them and keeps walking.
"Alina!"
She doesn't turn around. "What?" she snaps.
Sirius Black grins as he catches up to her. "What class do you have today?"
