Summary: Sam is dying. Y/N and Dean work out some differences.

"I love you." He said to Y/N. It had been the first time since he admitted his love to her. She was in shock and didn't know what to say.

Their relationship had been rocky since the start. Sam knew there was a way out of hunting and Y/N wasn't ready yet. She wasn't ready to become normal. To become the housewife and depend on Sam for money while they had little ones. She wasn't ready to give up on hunting. Throwing away the one thing she thought she was good at. Sam was always there for her. No matter what. He wanted to wait after giving it some thought. He'd wait until she was ready.

Now, she was sitting here, holding Sam in her lap and he was losing a lot of blood. "I'm not gonna make it but I had to tell you." He whispered.

"Don't talk like that. Of course you're gonna live." Y/N's eyes welled with tears.

"Does Dean even know?" Sam asked her with a sad smile.

"No, no he doesn't." She whispered. She couldn't bring herself to call Dean and face the fact that this was her fault. Her fault Sam was dying. Her fault for choosing this case that led them to where they are now.

Sam hummed before he started coughing. He coughed up some blood into his hand and groaned. When he relaxed, all he could do was stare at Y/N. "You're so beautiful..." He whispered.

Y/N started to panic. She tried her best to carry Sam on her shoulder and bring him to her car. She laid Sam down in the backseat while she searched for supplies in her car. "C'mon, c'mon." She whispered to herself. She searched in her trunk for bandages, a sewing kit, medicine, cream, etc. She frowned when she could only find some bandages and medicine. "Fuck, okay." She sighed. She came over to Sam and lifted up his shirt. The blood started to flow like crazy. She took off her first shirt and put pressure to his wound before tying it up. She gave Sam some water and medicine. "I'm going to drive you to the hospital, okay? Just hold on for me." Y/N told him. She ran to the driver seat and got the car started up.

Sam laid back down as he put pressure on his wound. He groaned. Y/N looked back at him hesitant. "Start driving!" He told her in a pained tone.

"Right!" Y/N blinked out of it and put the car in drive. She got them out of there and was speeding her way to the hospital. She saw her phone buzzing in the passenger seat. It had Dean's contact photo showing. "Fuck, fuck." She says in panic.

"Who is it?" Sam groaned. He took deep breaths, starting to get car sick.

"It's Dean! He can't know about this! He'll kill me!" Y/N says.

"Just answer it. He'll meet us at the hospital." Sam told her. Y/N made an unsure noise and picked up the phone. She answered his call.

"Finally. I thought you would never pick up. How's the hunt going?" Dean asked them.

"Um, it's going. Sam's messed up real bad. I'm kind of cut up. I'm getting us to the hospital." Y/N says, stuttering over her words.

"What?! What happened? Which hospital? I'll meet you-"

"Just please don't be mad..." Y/N says, on the verge of crying. She sniffled.

"Are-Are you crying?" Dean asked unsure.

"Maybe..." Y/N says, insecure about what the older brother would've been thinking of her in this very moment. She then gave the hospital's address.

"Okay, bye." Dean says and hung up. He stared at his phone, feeling a bit bad for how hard he had been on Y/N. He then brushed it off and put his mind on Sam. He got into his car and started driving.

Back to Y/N and Sam, Y/N glanced over her shoulder to see Sam laying there with his eyes closed. "Sam!" She says, seeing no response. "Sam!" She screamed, sobbing. "Hang on!" She says. She then got to the hospital and quickly parked. She got out quickly and hoisted Sam up. She ran into the emergency room with his weight on her. "Help me! He's dying! I need a doctor!" She screamed in full panic mode. Some nurses ran over to her, shouting a bunch of things to one another. They got Sam onto a stretcher and started to take off his pressure wound and shirt. They started to give him an oxygen mask and started to clean the wound. They were checking his pulse and his blood pressure.

At a certain point in the hospital, they told Y/N she wasn't allowed in. Y/N gasped in horror. She watched as they took Sam away from her and into a random hallway. She made her way back to the waiting room and saw Dean run in. The two stared at one another, sharing a silent conversation:

"Where is he?" (Dean)

"They took him away." (Y/N)

"How is he?" (Dean)

"I don't know. I'm scared." (Y/N)

"I'm scared too." (Dean)

Y/N took some trembling breaths as she slowly took a seat. Dean made his way over to her. He sat next to her defeated. "Please don't be mad at me. I was trying everything. I swear-"

"Y/N."

"I didn't have much and so I gave him what I could. I thought he was okay-"

"Y/N!" Dean got her attention, holding her arms. "It's okay." He told her. Y/N's eyes welled with tears.

"Oh, Dean, I'm so sorry-" She started crying and Dean embraced her.

"Shhh..." Dean soothed her, trying to think about if Sam was okay. He couldn't imagine a life without his younger brother. He had been there for him so many times. He would miss the way he would be the first one to wake up and come back from his morning run all sweaty. How Sam would be thoughtful enough to get them coffee. How he'd always be researching on his computer for a new case or for lore. He would miss the way he made his brother laugh. Those nights where it was just the two of them sharing stories over a beer. The way he actually liked his hair. Then when Y/N came along and changed Sam's life. He would miss the way they looked together. So happy and carefree. No matter the situation. Dean felt a tear go down his cheek. He sniffled, wiping it away quickly before anyone saw.

He looked down to see Y/N had seen it. She had those sympathetic eyes. She too was crying and just felt in that moment it was okay for both of them. They both loved Sam very very much.

"I'm sorry, ya know." Dean tried to say.

"For what?" Y/N looked at him.

"For being so hard on you... I haven't met somebody who has been there for Sam as much as I have. I respect the way you care for him." Dean explained. "I'm not good at this sort of thing." He chuckles sadly. "I just wanted to protect my little brother." His voice cracked a little. Y/N frowned. "There's nothing we can do now. It's up to them to save him. I just can't see him going like this. I can't. This was not how it was supposed to end." He told her with a sniffle. Y/N nodded. "We were supposed to go out the cool way like men in tights or some shit." Dean chuckles sadly again. Y/N cracked a small smile. "But he's all alone in there." He mumbled. He bit his lip. "I can't even comfort him." Y/N took a deep breath.

"I want him back in my arms just as much as you do." Y/N says. She looked down at her arms, seeing the way they had his dried blood on them. They then saw a doctor come in.

"Winchester?" He asked hesitant. Dean and Y/N jumped up from their seats. "We noticed Sam had some deep cuts and a stab wound. We would like to go over the details of how this happened." They said. Y/N and Dean shared a look.

"Sam and I were attacked when we went to the woods." Y/N explained. "I tried my best to get him to stay alive until we arrived here." She said. The doctor nodded, writing down notes and looked over at Dean.

"Were you with these two?" He asked.

"Uh, no, I-I was not." Dean says, trying to think.

"Okay," He wrote down and looked back at Y/N. "Relationships to the patient?"

"Girlfriend and brother." Y/N pointed to each of them. The doctor nodded then hummed. He turned to Dean.

"I assume you're the emergency contact? What about his mother and father?"

"Mother died in a house fire and our father was shot to death." Dean says with a frown.

"Okay then. Mr. Winchester, Sam is alive. Would you like to see him?" Dean looked at Y/N with hope in his eyes.

"Uh- yes. Can she come as well?" He asked him.

"Of course. We'd want only a small group so he isn't overwhelmed." The doctor explained. He guided them through the hospital to Sam's room. Sam laid in a hospital bed, asleep. He looked exhausted. His body marks made Dean frown.

"I know this isn't the time but may we have your insurance information?" The doctor asked. Dean searched through his wallet and gave him one Bobby had made for them. He exited the room and left them be.

"Y/N, he looks really bad. Why didn't you say you needed help?" He asked her.

"I couldn't handle the thought of you thinking I was weak." She says. "I'm supposed to be equally strong as you guys for taking this hunt. I can't even do that." She mumbled with a frown. "Now I have to live with the consequences." She took a breath.

"Hey," Dean says. "Don't blame yourself. You and Sam are capable of being good hunters. It's part of being human. You mess up." He reminded her. "Sam is very lucky to have you." He said.

"Really?" Y/N sniffled, looking over at him.

"Really." Dean smiled at her. He then looked at Sam and his sleeping state. He sat down and took a breath. "I'm so glad he's okay."

"Me too." Y/N smiled as she sat on the other side of Sam's bed.

-------------

It was late. Y/N moved in her chair and woke up a little. She saw Sam awake and looking outside the window. "Sam?" She says tiredly then woke up completely. "Sam?" She asked more aware.

"Y/N?" Sam looked at her. He smiled widely.

"I love you too." Y/N finally said. Sam chuckles.

"Good. Now marry me, pretty girl." He said. Y/N chuckles.

"Of course." She says and kissed him short.
