The first day of classes was in full swing and everything seemed normal, despite Umbridge's threat to control Hogwarts.

Cordelia's first class of the day was friendless as none of her friends (except for Cedric) had the OWL results to be in the class: NEWT potions with Professor Snape. It was a small class, consisting of twelve students from all four houses.

When Snape allowed the students to pair up on their own, everyone drifted to their friends, leaving Cordelia to choose between Adrian Pucey, who gave her a smug look, or Anthony who offered a smile and a wave. She chose Anthony since she wanted nothing to do with Adrian. He was paired up with a Ravenclaw boy named Thomas who showed up to class late.

By lunch, news of Harry's outburst in Umbridge's class and detention had already gone through the school. Cordelia was proud of Harry and thanked him for standing up for Cedric. Part of her hoped she had the Bravery to do the same if she needed to.

Cordelia's last class of the day was Defense Against the Dark Arts with the Hufflepuffs and Gryffindor. She sat in the back of the room as she took Remus' advice: "Keep your head down." Fred and her friends followed suit, sitting around her.

"Good afternoon, children," said Umbridge, in a sing-song voice as she stood in front of the class. The child grumbled in response.

"Now, that won't do at all," Umbridge tutted. "When I say, 'good afternoon,' you will respond back. Now let's try that again... Good afternoon, children."

"Good afternoon, Professor Umbridge," the students responded while Cordelia rolled her eyes.

"That's better," Umbridge praised. "Nastily Exhausting Wizarding Tests, more commonly known as NEWTS." she waved her wand as the chalk magically wrote on the board.

"I must impress that your seventh year exam results will determine your futures when you leave the school at the end of the school year. Study hard and you will be rewarded. Fail to do so, and the consequences will be severe," she warned.

A stack of books appeared, one book landed on each student's desk with a thud. Cordelia looked at the book in front of her and read the title, "Advanced Defense Against the Dark Arts". The book had an outdated, childish illustration.

"Now, turn to page one and begin reading," Umbridge instructed. The students silently opened their books.

The contents of the book matched its cover. The writing seemed to be geared towards young children, not NEWT students who were considered adults. Nothing about the book seemed advanced at all. Cordelia couldn't help it when she stopped reading and raised her hand.

"Yes, Miss Malfoy?" Umbridge addressed the girl.

"It's Diggory, Ma'am," Cordelia corrected the professor.
