~* Chapter 10 *~
~* Brothers & Friends *~
Cordelia and Cedric entered Platform 3/4 where they said their goodbyes to Cedric's parents and made promises to write often. Cordelia kept looking around, wondering if she would see her brother and parents. To both her dismay and relief, she didn't see any sign of them.
The Hufflepuffs walked down the train to their usual compartment where Kiana, Fred, George, and Lee were already waiting for them. Cedric walked in without hesitation, not noticing the girl had stopped just outside the compartment door. She stood frozen as she came face to face with a familiar blonde first year boy who stopped and looked back at her.
The siblings stood in the train corridor and stared at each other for a few minutes before Cordelia broke the silence, "Dray, I -"
Cordelia was interrupted by her brother holding his hand up. "Father blasted you off the family tree and cleared out your bedroom," said Draco, in an emotionless tone. "Pictures of you were removed, but I have a feeling that mother is hiding them. Mr. Mucliber broke off his betrothal with you, which is good. I really didn't want you to marry that creepy man."
Draco had turned to leave, but stopped when his sister called his name. "Dray, wait," Cordelia pleaded.
"Erm, I'm not allowed to talk to you and I have to pretend that you don't exist. I hope you're doing well and I hope you are happy with your choices, Cora... Have a good year," said Draco before he turned around and left Cordelia in the corridor without giving her a chance to respond.
Cedric came back and pulled her into the compartment where she pretended the interaction never happened.
The train ride to Hogwarts was filled with excited chatter and laughter. The six teenagers talked about their summers. Fred and George excitedly talked about how they helped the famous Harry Potter with his trunk. Kiana and Lee finally learned about Cordelia's disownment.

The year went by as well as any other for Cordelia. She spent her time with Kiana and Cedric and played a few pranks with Fred and George.
The twins were surprised when she asked to take part in a prank, but she did not feel the fear of getting in trouble as she had before. They showed her a map that showed everyone's movements in the castle, and they took her through the secret passages they had found.
"Who are the Mauraders?" asked Cordelia as she studied the map in awe.
"We have no idea," admitted Fred.
"But we owe them so much," added George.
From then on, Cordelia assisted the twins with numerous pranks. She had never felt so free and alive when doing something she would never get away with before. Even the simple things (like playing her guitar and ukulele under her favorite tree) felt more satisfying with out the fear of her father looming over her.

Being third years meant that they got to visit the town nearby, called Hogsmeade, where they enjoyed getting Butterbeers from the Three Broomsticks, buying sweets from Honeydukes, and purchasing items from Zonko's.
Cordelia noticed that she and Fred had become closer, but she would brush it off as nothing but friendship. George and Cedric had noticed some awkwardness between the two teenagers, so they naturally teased them about it.
She had gotten to know Harry and Hermione better through Ron, even though they didn't spend very much time together because of their different years and houses. She still offered to help them if they ever came to her.
Throughout the year, Cordelia watched Draco from afar. Her biggest regret with running away was leaving her little brother behind. She missed him and wished that she could help him. She did not want him to grow up with the pure-blood supremacy beliefs, and it saddened her to see him bullying other students.
One day, she noticed Draco speaking to Ron, Hermione, and Harry. The conversation did not look pleasant, so she decided to step in. She was angry when she overheard Draco say something nasty about Hermione.
"Draco! Where are your manners?!" Cordelia scolded her younger brother. "You should never speak to someone like that, even if you dislike them. Every person deserves respect and kindness."
"Of course you would take their side," Draco spat at his sister, sending her a glare as he walked away from the group. Cordelia blinked tears away from her eyes, not wanting the others to see her cry.

At the end of the year, the three Gryffindor first years had successfully saved the Sorcerer's Stone from Professor Quirrel.
Cordlia visited Harry in the Hospital Wing and brought him some chocolate frogs and some Daisies in a vase. She deemed Harry, Hermione, and Ron as "The Golden Trio," causing Harry to giggle.
Gryffindor had won the House Cup, and the Hufflepuffs were happy that a house other than Slytherin had won for the first time in years. Cordelia was very proud of The Golden Trio, and she let them know it with hugs.
The year ended with the same ride on the Hogwarts Express, where the three Hufflepuffs and three Gryffindors spent their time by playing games and planning their summers. Cordelia felt a sense of relief wash over her when the train pulled into King's Cross station, and she didn't have to worry about returning to Malfoy Manor.

AN: Sorry if this year seems a bit rushed. Not much happens during this time. I may add more later. But for now, this is it. The years going forward will be longer.
