All of the Hufflepuff students were seated in a dance hall that only had chairs pushed off to the sides, facing the middle of the room. All of the girls sat on one side of the room while the boys sat on the other side.

"The Yule Ball has been a tradition of the Triwizard Tournament since its inception. On Christmas Eve night, we and our guests gather in the great hall for well mannered frivolity," explained Professor Sprout. The boys groaned while some of the girls giggled excitedly. Even Cordelia was smiling at this news. It had been a long time since she had attended a fancy party, and she was looking forward to finally having a good time at one.

"As representatives of the host school, we expect each and every one of you to put your best foot forward," Professor Sprout continued. "And I mean this literally because the yule ball is first and foremost a dance.... Now, can I have a volunteer to help me demonstrate?"

Almost all of the boys laughed and kept their hands down. Cedric looked around at his fellow Hufflepuff boys and rolled his eyes. He stood up and stepped towards the Professor.

"Excellent, Mr. Diggory. Let us start the music." Sprout pulled out her wand and music started to play from an old viktrola. She offered Cedric her hand, which he took and placed her other hand on his shoulder. "Now, place your hand on my waist."

The other boys started to snicker but Cedric ignored them as he placed a hand on the professor's waist and danced around the room, following her instructions.

Professor Sprout had stopped their dancing after a few moments, "And now, it is time for you to practice. Everyone on their feet."

The girls stood immediately and walked forward to the boys. Cordelia already knew how to ballroom dance, thanks to the fancy parties she attended growing up. She was excited to dance with someone other than Draco or a boy from the Sacred 28. The boys, on the other hand, needed some encouragement, though most boys were happy to dance once asked by a girl. Cedric spotted Cordelia standing alone as everyone else paired up and walked over to her.

"May I have this dance?" he asked, extending his hand.

Cordelia smiled and accepted his hand before they walked a few feet towards the dancing pairs. Cedric placed a hand on her waist and held her hand with the other. Cordelia placed her free hand on his shoulder before they danced around the room.

"You're really good at this," he complimented her after a few minutes of dancing.

"Thank you. I had to learn for the fancy parties I had to attend when I was little. You're pretty good, yourself. Being the class volunteer paid off," she responded, returning the compliment. "Who is the lucky girl you want to take?"

"Oh, I have someone in mind," he answered as he blushed and looked away. "I was thinking about asking... Erm... Cho Chang."

"Cho? The Fifth year Ravenclaw seeker? That's brilliant, Ced."
