TW: Loss and grief, just like the title says
Cordelia sat in Professor Sprout's office with Fred's arms wrapped around her frame. His family had been sent to the Hospital Wing with Harry, but Fred refused to leave her side. Her adoptive parents sat next to them, holding onto each other as if they were each other's lifeline. She could hear her father's crying. She could hear the pain in her mother's sobs. She could hear Professor Sprout's soothing voice, but she couldn't make out the words as she drowned out all of the conversation between the adults. Her entire body felt numb, her ears rang, and her eyes burned with tears as they poured down her face.
After a while, Professor Sprout sent the students to bed. Cordelia sobbed in her parents' arms before leaving the office. The grieving girl stayed silent as Fred led her to the Hufflepuff barrels with his arm around her shoulders. She felt paralyzed, unable to command her body to do anything. If it weren't for Fred gently pushing her through the corridors, she would have stayed in one place.
When they got to the barrels, a Hufflepuff Prefect was standing in front of them. It was as if he was waiting for them. Fred let go of Cordelia for a moment before approaching the prefect, speaking in hushed voices. She watched them speak, but did not hear what was being said. The prefect must have let them in because they walked into the common room and headed towards Cordelia's dorm.
Kiana was already laying in bed with Lee next to her, holding her close as she cried. The boys exchanged a silent nod as Cordelia sat on the bed, letting Fred take off her shoes, before Fred took off his own and helped her into bed. He didn't feel the need to help her change into pajamas, nor get comfortable himself. Once she was laying down under the duvet, he laid down next to her before wrapping his arms around her, allowing her to press her face against his chest.
When Natalie and Rebecca came into the room not too long after. They didn't mind seeing the boys there. They couldn't imagine the pain that their dormmates were going through. They had tears in their eyes as well and remained silent as they used the bathroom and got into bed.
The two couples held each other for the rest of the night. Fred made sure to stay awake, stroking Cordelia's hair until she cried herself asleep before falling asleep himself.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Cordelia and Fred woke up in an empty room the morning after the third task. They weren't sure what time it was, but assumed breakfast was over. They were silent as they took turns to use the bathroom. Cordelia changed her clothes while she was in there, relieved to get rid of the dirt and tear stained clothes that were wrinkled from sleeping in them.
Natalie and Rebecca walked in with a tray of food in their hands and sadness in their eyes. They placed the tray on Cordelia's desk. The two girls then looked to the other, as if having a conversation with each other, trying to figure out what to say.
