The first two weeks of being back home were very difficult for Cordelia. Home simply did not feel like home without Cedric. She felt depressed and empty, and all she wanted to do was stay in bed and cry. She let herself do that for the first few days, but then she became so restless that she could not let herself do that.

Instead, she channeled her grief and depression into keeping herself busy. She unpacked Cedric's trunk and placed everything where he would have been when he was home for the summer.

While Adele and Amos gave their input for the funeral, Cordelia did all the foot work for it: hiring someone to lead the service, picking out flowers and decorations, and planning the wake after the ceremony. The Weasleys were the biggest help. Molly followed after Cordelia, trying to take some of the tasks off the girl. Everyone told her it was okay to slow down and "grieve properly," but there was more than one way to grieve and this was her way.

Amos and Adele were going through their own grief in a different way. They were not there to pick Cordelia up from King's Cross when the school year ended, causing her to leave the station with the Weasleys.

The girl found her adoptive parents in bed when she walked into the house and checked every room. Cordelia did feel a little neglected by this, but she understood that their hearts were broken in ways none of them could understand. The parents stayed on the days leading up to the funeral while Molly and Cordelia took care of them.

The funeral was the worst day of the family's lives. Many people showed up to pay their respects. Tom and his barmaid Judith, were in attendance, leaving another staff in charge of The Leaky Cauldron. All of the Hogwarts professors were there as well. Cordelia was slightly surprised to see Remus Lupin, having not seen him since he left Hogwarts. Many students from Hogwarts were also wanting to pay their respects to their departed classmate. Of course, Cho was there with her family. His dormmates were also there. Cho didn't speak a word to Cordelia, but instead cried by her parents' side. Anthony had taken a different approach. Much like Cordelia, he channeled his grief into staying busy. During the funeral and the wake, he tried to be there for Cordelia and her parents. Cordelia was grateful that her parents took most of the boy's attention. It wasn't that she wasn't appreciative or accepting of his help, she simply didn't know how to handle him.

Prior to the funeral, knowing that eyes would be on her and her parents, Cordelia bought a new outfit for the funeral. She wore a knee-length black dress with lace on the chest and a wide neckline that rested on her shoulders. The sleeves were also lace and stopped just below her elbow. Her hair was in a low bun, but kept her signature black headband, with some hair framing her face. She kept her shoes simple with black flats. She hoped dressing nice would help her feel better. It did bring her little comfort, but looking put together did not make her feel that way.
