Cordelia's summer as a thirteen year old started out the same as her previous summer: She stayed in her room when her father was home. Dobby even brought her dinner so that she would not have to join her family. This seemed to be the new normal for the new teen, but she was fine with it. Anything was better than being in the same room as her father.

One evening in July, Lucius sent Dobby to retrieve his daughter, requiring her to join the family for dinner.

"Your father tells me you need to dress acceptably," Dobby informed Cordelia when he told her the news.

She begrudgingly put on a clean dress and went to the dining hall to see that the Avery and Nott families had been invited. Her father sat at the table. Her mother sat on his left, with Draco on her other side. A seat was saved for Cordelia next to Draco. Mr. Avery sat on Lucius' right, with Mrs. Avery next to him. Their son, Lucas, sat next to his mother. Next to Lucas was the Notts' son Theodore. His mother sat on his other side, and Mr. Nott sat at the other end of the table.

She sat at the table next to her brother, and silently moved her food around the plate throughout the meal, trying not to bring attention to herself. Her attempt went in vain, however, as Theodore and Lucas spent their time in whispers, occasionally sneering at the girl.

Dessert was finally served and Cordelia was glad, as it meant she could go back to her bedroom soon. Lucius was talking to Mr. Avery and Mr. Nott when their conversation brought Cordelia out of her own thoughts.

"Those mud-bloods have no business working in the ministry," Mr. Avery commented. "They cannot hold the same skills we do."

Cordelia hand tightened around her fork in response to the man's words as she glared down at her untouched plate. Every part of her body fought to say something in retaliation to the comment.

"The ministry? Mud-Bloods have no business being in the wizarding world," Mr. Nott declared.

Cordelia took a deep breath as she felt anger rise up in her chest. She still didn't say anything, trying to keep her composure as she tightened her grip on her fork. The Avery and Nott children giggled to themselves as they watched her struggle.

"They have indeed tainted our way of life with their vile inventions and ways of thinking. They will be the cause of our society's downfall," said Lucius, openly admitting his hatred and prejudice towards the people he deemed unworthy.

With this comment, Cordelia snapped, thinking about her friends and their wonderful families. "You're wrong," she whispered to herself as her brother nudged her with his elbow.

"What was that, girl?" asked Lucius, turning his attention to his daughter.

"I said you're wrong," she said louder, her voice rising as she spoke. She dropped her fork onto her plate, causing a loud clunk. "Muggleborns aren't bad people."
