TW: Anxiety, death, and grief
Cordelia and Fred sat on the stands in the family section with Fred's siblings sitting around them. Their mothers sat behind them, talking excitedly about the task. Twp spaces on either side of the mother's were empty. Adele was saving a seat for Amos who was still with Cedric, while Molly was saving one for Arthur who was with Harry. The group looked out at the large maze that was now covering the Quidditch Pitch with its green hedges standing tall.
Cordelia was a big ball of nerves as her legs bounced up and down. She fiddled with her charm bracelet, which had gained a few new charms over the years. She still couldn't shake the feeling that something bad was going to happen. Everyone could see and feel the anxiety that was radiating from her. Fred reached over and squeezed his girlfriend's hand and kissed her temple.
"Everything is going to be alright, darling," he whispered in her ear.
The band that was playing music stopped. Dumbledore pointed his wand to his throat and muttered a spell to magnify his voice as it echoed through the stands.
"Ladies and gentlemen, the third and final task of the Triwizard Tournament is about to begin! Let me remind you how the points currently stand! Mr. Cedric Diggory and Mr. Harry Potter are tied for first place!"
Amos grabbed Cedric's hand and raised both of their hands into the air, cheering while Aruthur did the same with Harry. The Hogwarts students cheered loudly and Dumbledore had to wait for the crowd to calm down.
"In second place: Mr. Viktor Krum!" The Durmstrang students cheered and chanted his name.
"In third place: Miss Fleur Delacour!" The Beauxbatons students clapped and started to dance and sing.
Dumbledore continued once the crowd calmed down once again, "Earlier today Professor Moody placed the Triwizard cup deep within the maze. Only he knows its exact position. The first person to touch the cup will be the winner. I've instructed the staff to patrol the perimeter, if at any point should a contestant wish to withdraw from the task he or she need only send up red sparks with their wands. Champions, gather round."
Cordelia could see Dumbledore speaking with the Champions, though she could not hear what was being said. The cannon went off, startling everyone who watched as the maze opened up with two separate entrances. The music began to play again as the crowd cheered more. Harry and Cedric bid goodbye to the two men and entered the separate entrances which closed behind them. After a few minutes, the maze opened once again to allow Fleur and Viktor to disappear behind the hedges.
"And now we wait," muttered Ginny.
"And now we wait," repeated Cordelia.
"You know... With such a big tournament, you'd think they'd have tasks that spectators could actually watch," George commented with a sigh. The others mumbled in agreement. The music stopped and people began to have conversations to keep themselves occupied.
