In the near back corner of the lunchroom, Seliel sat by herself, air pods in her ears as she unconsciously bobbed on with the music. She didn't mind being alone, in fact, she enjoyed it. She was allowed to disassociate with her surroundings and float into the realms of music.
But right now, she was still on solid ground, her mind limited to the smooth Jazz tunes of Jackson Bobby's saxophone and scat number. Her noise canceling earbuds stopped her from realizing the boy sitting in front of her trying to get her attention.
"Oh sorry," Seliel said, pausing the song.
"You're good, I shouldn't have shown up unannounced," Cole said, setting his back down next to him. "What are you listening to?"
"Just Jackson Bobby," Seliel said, handing her airpod to Cole for a listen. "You can listen too if you want,"
Cole gratefully accepted and the two sat in silence with the sound of Jackie's Saxophone skills smoothing out their brains with its smooth notes. It was only when the song stopped did one of them decide to speak.
"Y'know, Jackson Bobby is one of my favorite musicians, but he's definitely first for smooth Jazz," Cole said, taking the airpod out and handing it back to Seliel.
"I agree. He has a magical way of connecting those notes together. Everytime I listen to him it's like smooth Jazz Heaven," Seliel awed. Her eyes sparkled in a way that made Cole's heart flutter.
"That's one way of putting it," Cole smirked, pulling out his phone. "What's your number?"
"Oh it,s 253-6172-XXXX," Seliel listed off the numbers that took her so hard to remember the first summer she had a phone.
"Nice." Cole said shutting off his phone after sending. "Do you know Jesse WoodBurg?"
"Of course I do, he's my favorite singer and guitar player of all time," Seleil enthusiastically replied, hre face lighting up in a smile.
"Well, I have two tickets for his concert this weekend and I was wondering if you would like to join?" Cole said, pulling out the tickets from his backpack pocket.
"Seriously?" Seliel's dreams were coming true. Ever since she was young she would beg her parents to take her to see Jessie's concerts. They always said no, of course, since they were always too busy, and her mom wanted her to focus on her dancing instead. "Oh I would love to!"
"Great, the concert's at 7:30pm this Saturday, can you message me your address so I can pick you up? Cole smiled. Seliel nodded happily. Though, their moment of happiness was cut short by a certain someone and their friend.
"Hey Nicki!!!!" Vania said, swooping down and giving Cole a big hug around the shoulders before he could push her off. Seliel sensed Cole's discomfort and cleared her throat loudly.
"Oh hi there, didn't see you, I'm Vania, Nicki's girlfriend," Vania waved her white acrylics in her hair.
"Ex. Ex Girlfriend," Cole corrected, shooting over to put some distance between them. Vania laughed, playfully hitting Cole's shoulder.
"I'm Seliel," Seliel introduced herself unsurely. She wasn't sure what this girl's problem was, but Cole's uneasiness around her set Seliel's alerts high.
"Well, Seliel, why are you talking to Nicki?" Vania said, her palms pressed down on the table as she leaned in. Her voice was so viciously sweet, Seliel quietly gulped in fear.
"Why are you talking to Cole?" Jay said, suddenly appearing next to Vania, making her step a few feet back.
"Oh I was just introducing myself to his new friend Cecilia," Vania excused.
For some reason Seliel's anger level's seemed to boil up a bit. What was with people mixing her name with Cecilia? Seliel and Cecilia don't even sound the same!
"Really? Because by the looks of it, everyone here but you seems uncomfortable?" Nya observed, folding her arms across her chest.
"Oh I didn't notice," Vania faked, her hand lay on her collarbone in fake embarrassment.
"Keep up with this, and you'll have to kiss your cheerleading position goodbye, Vania," Lloyd said, his elbows resting on the table. "The principal doesn't take harassment of other students well."
"Bye now," Nya said, waving an eye rolling Vania off, her friend Tox shooting the bird before trailing after her.
"I swear, that girl will never leave me alone," Cole said, shaking his head in disappointment. Before the conversation could continue at the end of lunch. With a quick wave from Cole to Seliel, the students left the cafeteria.
