Sunghoon
Sunghoon woke up the next day with a splitting headache. The events of the previous night lingered in his mind, adding to the weight he already felt. Tonight, he would be leaving for Paris, a flight that symbolized not just a journey but an escape from the heartbreak he couldn't bear to face.
Dragging himself out of bed, he headed downstairs for breakfast. He spotted Heeseung at a table, cheerfully eating his meal. Heeseung noticed Sunghoon's gloomy demeanor right away.
"Hey, Hoon. You look like you got run over by a truck. Everything okay?" Heeseung asked, concern etched on his face.
Sunghoon forced a smile, shaking his head. "I'm fine, just didn't sleep well," he replied, not wanting to delve into the details.
Heeseung gave him a skeptical look but didn't push further. They ate their breakfast in relative silence, Heeseung occasionally making light-hearted comments to lift the mood.
The wedding was approaching quickly, so Sunghoon went back to his room to get ready. After donning his suit and making sure he looked presentable, he decided to check on Bora. He headed to her room, finding her almost ready and looking stunning in her wedding dress. Jake was there too, fussing over her hair.
"You look beautiful, Bora," Sunghoon said with a warm smile.
"Absolutely breathtaking," Jake added, his voice full of admiration.
Bora blushed, playfully swatting at Jake. "Oh, stop it, you two. You're making me blush."
Sunghoon chuckled. "Can you believe we're here? It feels like just yesterday we were kids causing trouble."
Jake nodded, his eyes a bit misty. "Yeah, we've come a long way. I'm really proud of us."
A soft knock on the door interrupted their moment. Nari walked in, looking flustered. "Have you seen my-"
She stopped mid-sentence when she saw the boys and Bora. Her eyes met Sunghoon's for a brief moment before they both looked away, the pain still too raw for either of them to bear.
"Have you seen my bouquet?" Nari asked, her voice quieter now.
"It's on the dresser," Bora pointed out, giving her a sympathetic smile.
"Thanks," Nari said, quickly grabbing it and making her way out. The room fell silent, the tension palpable.
Jake cleared his throat, trying to break the awkwardness. "Well, we should get going. We're Hanuel's best men, after all."
Sunghoon and Jake left Bora's room, walking together towards the venue. As they walked, Jake nudged Sunghoon playfully. "So, spill. What's going on with you and Nari?"
Sunghoon sighed, running a hand through his hair. "It's complicated, Jake. Really complicated."
Jake nodded. "Love usually is. But hey, we're here to celebrate today. Let's try to focus on that, yeah?"
Sunghoon managed a weak smile. "Yeah, you're right."
They arrived at the venue, joining the rest of the wedding party. The ceremony was about to start, and Sunghoon took his place among the best men, his mind a whirlwind of emotions.
As the ceremony began, Sunghoon couldn't help but steal glances at Nari. She looked beautiful, a vision in her dress, but the distance between them felt insurmountable. His heart ached with the realization that despite their confessions, they were still worlds apart.
Bora walked down the aisle, radiant and glowing, her eyes locked on Hanuel. The love between them was palpable, and it brought a genuine smile to Sunghoon's face. He was beyond happy for his friend. Bora deserved all the happiness in the world.
The ceremony continued, filled with heartfelt vows and teary-eyed guests. Sunghoon found himself lost in thought, reflecting on his own feelings and the path ahead. He knew he had to let Nari go, no matter how much it hurt. Her happiness was more important than his own desires.
After the ceremony, during the reception, the atmosphere was lively and joyful. Sunghoon mingled with friends and family, trying to keep his spirits up. Heeseung, ever the joker, kept making funny faces during the speeches, earning laughter from everyone around.
At one point, Sunghoon found himself alone, standing by the bar with a drink in hand. He looked out at the crowd, spotting Nari dancing with some of the other bridesmaids. She looked happy, and it made his heart ache even more.
Jake approached him, clinking their glasses together. "To new beginnings," Jake said with a grin.
"To new beginnings," Sunghoon echoed, though his smile didn't quite reach his eyes.
As the night wore on, Sunghoon found himself in a quieter part of the garden, seeking solace in the cool night air. The stars were out, twinkling brightly, a stark contrast to the turmoil he felt inside.
He heard footsteps behind him and turned to see Nari approaching. She looked hesitant, her eyes reflecting the same sadness he felt.
"Hey," she said softly, coming to stand beside him.
"Hey," he replied, his voice equally soft.
They stood in silence for a moment, the weight of their unspoken words hanging between them. Finally, Nari broke the silence.
"I'm sorry about earlier. I didn't mean to hurt you," she said, her voice trembling.
"I know," she whispered, tears welling up in her eyes.
Without thinking, Sunghoon pulled her into a hug, holding her close. She clung to him, tears spilling down her cheeks. They stood like that for what felt like an eternity, neither wanting to let go.
Finally, Nari pulled back slightly, looking up at him. Their faces were inches apart, and in that moment, the world seemed to stop. Sunghoon leaned in, and their lips met in a sad, tender kiss. It was filled with all the emotions they couldn't put into words, a bittersweet farewell.
When they finally pulled away, Nari's eyes were filled with tears. "Goodbye, Sunghoon," she whispered, her voice breaking.
"Goodbye, Nari," he replied, his heart shattering as she turned and walked away, leaving him standing alone in the garden.
