Sunghoon
Sunghoon had barely finished his breakfast when he got back to packing up his old apartment. His morning had been a blur of sorting through old clothes, throwing out things he didn't need, and boxing up the rest. The apartment, once a reflection of his life in Chicago, was now a series of empty rooms and cardboard boxes. The memories were evident in every corner, but he was determined to move forward.
As he worked through his closet, he found a photo frame tucked away at the back. It was a snapshot from their trip to Italy—a moment of laughter and sunshine. Bora, Jake, Nari, and him. Sunghoon's eyes lingered on Nari's face in the photo. The image brought back a rush of emotions, both sweet and painful. He sighed heavily and carefully placed the frame in a box, feeling the weight of their last argument like a heavy shroud.
Just then, his phone buzzed. He glanced at it and saw Nari's name on the screen. His heart skipped a beat, but a flicker of hesitation crossed his mind. He hesitated, thinking about the last conversation they had. Nevertheless, he picked up the phone with a quick "Hello?"
On the other end of the line, Nari's breathing was heavy and uneven. Sunghoon's heart dropped. The silence was thick with tension. He called out again, "Nari? Are you there?"
Finally, she spoke. Her voice was barely audible, cracking and slurry. "S-sunghoon..." Her words were broken, and he could hear the slur of alcohol in her voice.
"Hey, are you okay?" Sunghoon's concern was immediate and intense. He sat down, his mind racing. "Where are you?"
"I-I'm sorry," Nari stammered, her voice trembling. "I didn't mean... I just..."
"Slow down. Where are you?" Sunghoon's voice was firm but gentle, trying to cut through her drunken haze. He needed to make sure she was safe first. "Nari, please."
"I'm at... at a bar... I got drunk... I'm sorry..."
Sunghoon's heart sank. He could hear the distress in her voice. "Okay, listen to me carefully. I'm going to call someone to come and get you. Just stay where you are, alright? Don't move. I'm going to make sure you're safe."
He quickly hung up and called Bora. "Hey, it's Sunghoon. I need your help. Nari's at a bar, and she's drunk. I need someone to pick her up and get her home safely. Can you do that?"
Bora's voice was filled with alarm. "Oh my god, is she okay? I'll get there right away."
Sunghoon felt a wave of relief. "Thank you. Make sure she doesn't do anything stupid, alright? Just get her home. I'll talk to her tomorrow."
After hanging up, Sunghoon took a deep breath and sat back down, his thoughts racing. He couldn't help but worry. The fight, the silence, and now this. He wanted to be there for her, to make things right.
The rest of his day was a blur. He finished packing in a daze, his mind preoccupied with Nari's well-being. Each item he packed was a reminder of what he was leaving behind, but the thought of Nari made everything more complicated.
