Blake
After one hour of tortuous discussion, they finally decided to call it a night and agreed to meet again to interrogate the Akimuras. Ron was taken aback when everyone told him about the gang and the agency's involvements with the supernatural. Helion was eager to get back to his condo and get some rest, but first he needed to do something.
Applegate and Doral dispatched to their offices to go over some other cases, and Agent Hartman went to make a phone call report. Helion told Ron that he needed to talk. They walked silently out to the parking lot and continued until they reached Ron's car.
"Something wrong?" he asked after they go in.
Helion waited until he pulled off his cowl before he spoke.
"I'm not sure, but I get this feeling that those agents are hiding something," he admitted.
"Well, duh, that's a given. Although you hafta admit, finding out about the existence of actual magic is quite a shock for everyone. I didn't even think such a thing existed, let alone an organization that specializes in handling these kinds of cases."
Helion, now Blake, chuckled. "Tell me about it."
"Okay, so what do you need?" Ron asked.
Blake breathed to gather his thoughts.
"Right before the meeting I overheard Agent Sharpe tell Agent Tsang and Agent Tallman to be mindful of what they share with us. I'm thinking about asking Ana María to run a background check on them and their agency to see if they're legit. Just in case."
He nodded. "I understand. After that whole thing with Victor, it's probably better to be completely safe than sorry. In fact, you should tell her to relay the information to Captain Prett's team. They're excellent tech wizzes after all."
Blake nodded. "That's a good idea."
Ron looked at him thoughtfully while twisting his fingers in twirls. Like he still had something to say.
"Is there something you wanted to say, Ron?" he asked.
He untwisted his fingers and patted Blake's shoulder.
"I know you want this to go well, and I won't tell you to do anything you wouldn't wanna do. But don't be disheartened if it doesn't work out, okay? You've proven yourself to the team, to me, and — most of all — to Quinn. Remember when Hartman and those other agents grilled you with questions for hours and hours when you first came back from the dead?"
Blake nodded.
"Well, look at them now. They see you as part of the team. They know you're good. As does the rest of the world."
Blake stared off into space. In the past three somewhat peaceful months, the general public had come to trust him, because they didn't know Helion was once the vicious criminal, Dark Flame. All they knew was that he was Blue Spekter's partner, as was Ana María who revealed herself to the world as Catamount. The Guardians trusted him as a valuable member of the team, which Ron was also a part of. So why was this so important to him?
Because deep down, Blake sensed the STF still didn't trust him all that much. Neither did the school board. Even now, he was still on probation. Considering what he did to the gym hall during the Christmas assembly, he couldn't really blame them for being afraid of him.
When Andrew told him about the secret dealing, he thought it would be his chance to prove himself to the team. Then...
"Helloo, Earth to Blake." Ron patted his shoulder. "Where were you just now?"
