Della

Agent Sharpe drove Della and Chase to the airport after a two-hour long session of reporting to the FRU on the mission, its outcome, and the procedure to transfer the Fuerza gang to a supernatural jail in Pennsylvania. Captain Prett's team were catching a flight back home in the afternoon.

The more difficult part was the news report. The morning news reported last night's bizarre storm that nearly destroyed the town. No one had noticed the light that shot up into the sky when Avelino cast the spell. None of the camera feeds caught sight of it either. The report didn't cover much of the storm either; they focused on the new mysterious superheroes who showed up beside the Guardians. According to Camilla Brenhurst and the people she interviewed, there was a blond girl who held the Ferris wheel steady with her bare hands while suspended in midair, her muscular male partner helped free the patrons and take them to safety before the girl put the wheel down. There were also sightings of two individuals and a giant bird working to protect Kittery alongside Catamount. Someone even spotted Miranda on top of one of the towers of the Long Bridge where she conjured up a bunch of lightning rods that absorbed powerful lightning bolts. Perry, however, was not on the news. But when the tsunami came, someone had filmed the whole thing where several individuals and two dragons came together and fought it back.

The videos went viral in a matter of hours. Now everyone in the digital world knew about the existence of new superhumans.

At least they're not talking about witches and vampires.

All hell broke loose, and people started asking questions about the new superheroes. So far, the STF is yet to give a statement. The FRU wanted to get a handle on the situation, but it was impossible to cover such a grand event from the public, even with memory erasing powers or spells. The best one could do was to talk with the Guardians and see if they could come up with a solution. Della had no idea how they were going to fix it. Hopefully the STF will have some idea on how to settle the matter. However, Burnett had agreed on the FRU's behalf to aid on the matter should it be helpful. He also ordered Della and Chase's immediate return, hence they no longer needed to stay in Portsmouth.

Agent Sharpe broke Della out of her thoughts.

"It was a pleasure working with you," Sharpe said and shook hands with them.

They said their goodbyes, then walked into the airport. Chase had already checked them in, so all they did was print the tickets and got in line to enter the terminal. When they came to the gate, there was plenty of time until boarding. That left Della space to contemplate everything again. And on a smaller matter, Della had called Steve to check on Millie's condition. The clinic was spared from the stormy damage. Millie was safe. But she will soon be discharged. Della ached for the longer suffering she was going to endure. When you're a new vampire, the craving for blood was most difficult and feeding needed to be controlled if she were to avoid hurting anyone. Then came the emotional pain of having to distance herself from her family and keep them from finding out what she had become. Steve had a vampire friend who lived a decent life, and he promised to ask him for help. That lightened Della's pain a little bit. She made Steve promise to check up on Millie and keep her updated.

After walking through the metal detectors, they waited for their flight.

"She'll be okay, you know," Chase said reassuringly. "Steve, Blake and the others will keep her safe."

Sometimes it still amazed Della how the bond between them worked. Chase could easily feel her pain and she could feel his, and they could tell when the other was happy. Right now, he was feeling her concern for Millie.

She nodded.

The monitor showing their flight changed to boarding. And so they followed the crowd to the line boarding the flight. Della decided to focus on the happy things: soon they will be home in Texas, and the first thing she will do was find her best friends and get to Shadow Falls.
