Della

Della stepped out of the shower and toweled off her long, wet hair. She wrapped it around her breasts to cover them down to her thighs and wiped away the steam from the bathroom mirror to look into her reflection. She felt more exhausted than she looked.

She had dropped down onto the bed and dozed off after returning from the clinic last night. Steve promised to keep her posted about Millie's condition, but her brain still ached with thoughts about the poor girl and everything that now awaited her.

The dreadfulness of the situation was enough to drown out her memory of Burnett's displeased tone when Chase filled him in on what happened last night. The guy ranted and cursed to heaven and hell until he finally got it out of his system. He then listened to the rest of the story, and eventually agreed that the best course of action at present would be to keep working with the local PD, the Guardians, and the STF for the rest of the mission.

That's one thing we agree on.

Chase knocked on the door.

"Hey, babe, you okay in there?" he asked.

Her first instinct was to say yes, but an oak door wasn't enough to block a Reborn vampire's superior hearing–plus the Reborn blood bond that bound them made them sensitive to each other's feelings, so instead she said, "I'll be right out."

Della was about to reach for the handle when a phone rang from the bedroom. Chase answered it the same time she came out. Her back tingled with anticipation of her boyfriend watching her naked body with mischief and turned away to hide the amusement on her face.

"Good morning, Agent Sharpe," Chase said.

Della started combing her wet hair while the voice on the other line spoke with perfect clarity in her ears. "Good morning, Agent Tallman. Is Agent Tsang with you? I need her to hear this."

"Yes, I'm here," she called over while combing her hair.

"Oh, good. Listen, I had a source of mine run some tests on the residual magical energy you gave me. It definitely belongs to a high ranked La Fuerza member named Avelino Espinoza. He's a powerful warlock and has been known for blackmailing recruits with plagues and hexes."

Chase nodded. "That makes sense. Helion said a thick fog appeared out of nowhere before they had a chance to apprehend the gang. It must have been him who created it to help them escape. Any way to track them down with the residue?"

"Already tried that. Sent the info to an acquaintance of mine in another county. That guy was smart enough to cloak them from being detected. I think the only way to find them would be to wait for them to come out of hiding."

Way to kill the hope, Sharpe.

Della set the comb on the nightstand and stripped off the towel. She felt Chase's mischievous mood intensified by her nudity, which was enough to kill her gloomy mood. Still, now was not the time to be distracted, especially when they had a meeting in an hour.

"Then we need to figure out what they're after and where they're hiding," she suggested.

"Which is why we're with the STF and the Guardian at their special headquarters," Chase interjected. "Which, by the way, you still haven't sent us the coordinates to."

Della snorted. She proceeded to put on her bra and panties.

The temperature in the room suddenly dropped immensely to the point that she saw her own breath. Della knew it meant they had another visitor in the room. And she was naked.

She quickly strapped on her bra and wrapped the towel around her waist, then swept her glance around the room. Chase did the same thing. But there was no one. At least he hadn't materialized yet.
