Blue energy loomed on the force field surrounding the factory. Blue Spekter clenched his knuckles in fists then unclenched them and repeated the process. His chest heaved the longer he faced the factory. It was getting difficult to breathe, knowing that Blake and Ana María were both trapped in there.

Still, he needed to stay focused if he was going to rescue them. Burnett and the others stood just a few feet behind him.

Gosh, I wish Ron were here. He'd tell me all the things I need to hear to help me stay focused.

A hand tapped lightly on his shoulder and snapped him back to the present. The touch was unfamiliar, rougher than Keegan, Blake, or either of his dads. It was also scorching hot, like it had been living in the desert.

Blue Spekter looked over his shoulder at Burnett.

The vamp handed him a smoke grenade enchanted with magic. "This should be good enough, but Miranda's spells are never quite that efficient."

Blue Spekter wasn't too worried about Burnett's plan not working. He was more worried about not failing to get through to Blake. He tugged the weapon strapped tightly behind his back.

He went over the plan in his mind again for the fifth time. All he needed to do was knock out his friends once he was alone with them, then toss the grenade to force the demons out of them. He grimaced at the word.

Man, our lives have become so strange since last September.

He forced himself out of his head and focus on the plan.

The task force all waited about two yards behind him and the frontline which consisted of Burnett, Perry, Lucas, and Shawn. Miranda and Sharpe were the second line. Kylie, Derek and Jenny stayed furthest back–they were vital to the plan. Lucas had argued with Burnett about going in with Kylie, but Burnett reasoned that they needed him more on the frontline. It took Kylie's personal persuasion to make him reluctantly agree to the plan.

"We need to hurry," Miranda urged. "I can sense the danger closing in. I think they're on the move."

Right in that moment, Blue Spekter's mind rang with Helion and Catamount's presences. They were moving somewhere inside the factory. And coming closer in their direction.

Time's up.

After making sure the weapon was safely secured, he lifted his hands. Ice beams shot out of his palms on the energy wall. The energy bounced it off before it could take hold, as suspected. He instantly changed gear and shot orgone energy out of his hands and eyes. The four-way energy beams struck a single point in the force field. It didn't bounce off his attack this time. The blue energy on the wall rippled like a rock had been thrown into still water. But the wall was as sturdy as ever. It remained in place despite the sharp assault. He intensified the attack. But the wall remained standing.

He intensified it further, his muscles strained with the raw power. The ripples on the wall shook more violently.

Still, nothing happened. Blue Spekter grunted with frustration and anger. Suddenly, the power in him rose a hundred levels. The beams spread out into wide destructive rays to cover more than a single point.

The wall vibrated intensely. The collision of energy became too great for it to withstand now. In no time the beams overcame its durability. An explosion erupted on both sides of the barrier. Blue Spekter automatically raised his own protective shield at the height of a three-story tall building to protect everyone from the impact. Fireworks, plasma, all flared up against the shield and spread out in left and right as if to find an edge to get past. Blue Spekter willed the shield to expand on both sides until it became wide like a dam. The explosion continued to roar with protest until it used up its last power and dissipated. The surrounding flames snaked up and around before they lost their power and vanished into thin air. He waited a moment before letting down his shield. The smell of smoke and heat hit his nostrils.
