Della

Della enjoyed letting the air blow back her hair while Chase drove the topless black Porsche he rented from Enterprise Rent-A-Car. Her worries and frustrations from all the interrogation sessions blew away.

"Why are we going to Prescott Park?" Della asked. "I thought we were having lunch."

Chase reached under the compartment and pulled out a wine bottle.

"Picnic lunch," he explained, "along with some nice O negative, some Snickerdoodles, sandwiches, and strawberries dipped in chocolate. The basket's in the trunk."

Della's heart fluttered at the little romantic gesture. Chase was definitely a master manipulator who knew how to woo a woman.

"Sandwiches are not edible for vampires," she said with a feigned tough voice while keeping her face straight.

"I know." He turned to look at her. "Those are just for show. But who says we can't dip them in tasty strawberries. I know you love those."

I love the way you carry your voice, she thought and felt a smile form on her face.

"And you love Snickerdoodles," she said.

Chase pulled over and found a parking space. Della pressed the button to put the sunroof back over the car while her boyfriend got out to get the picnic basket. She made sure to bring the bottle out of the compartment before she pulled out the key and got out.

"Got a spot in mind?" she asked.

"Over at the pier next to the carnival," he said and pointed. "I saw it last night when we were flying back together."

They walked together to the side of the ocean. Chase spread a blanket on the ground and they enjoyed a lovely and quaint picnic. Della loved the taste of O negative blood, which was now being poured into a plastic cup.

"No glass?" she asked.

"Couldn't find any on short notice," he answered.

She snickered.

"Says the guy who found the time to rent a car, get a basket and put together all of this."

"Exactly. My time ran out." He held up his cup in waiting.

Della lifted hers and they clicked them together like they were drinking champagne.

"This is really sweet and all, but you do know we're here to work, right?" she said.

Chase sipped from his cup.

"Doesn't mean we can't take a lunch break," he countered. "And what better place to relax and recharge than this beautiful park on a sunny day. Beats eating in the office with those vending machines. Besides, I could use a break from all the interrogating."

Della chuckled. Good thing vampires don't burn in the sun.

She looked over to the vibrant carnival in the distance. It had been a while since she had been to one herself, but it was fine. She was happy where she was. Enforcing the law and being with Chase had made her happier than she thought possible. Aside from being with Kylie and Miranda, and going back to Shadow Falls to work part-time on security.

Chase fed her strawberries, and she was silently thankful that she was still able to enjoy the delicious fruit after becoming a vampire.

Della fed Chase his favorite Snickerdoodle cookies.

He moaned at the taste.

"Tastes like love, right?" she quoted.

He bobbed his head. "Definitely, but you taste better."
