Quinn
Quinn, Miranda, and Kylie went back to Holiday's office almost immediately after the vision ended. On their way back, Quinn felt the peace from the falls slip away and worry made his chest tighten. Worry about his home. Worry about the town that he grew up in, and the people who lived there. If it was really going to happen and if it was going to be as horrifying as the San Andreas movie, he wanted to do whatever it takes to stop it.
I need to find out what it means.
Kylie took off to take a call from her mom almost as soon as they got back to the cabin. And Miranda needed to talk to her professor about a paper she was working on. That left him alone to tell Holiday about the shared vision of Portsmouth drowned in a tsunami. Keegan listened quietly beside him.
"So, do you know what it means?" he asked after telling the story.
Holiday placed her elbows on the table and rested her chin on top of her tangled fingers. A frown appeared on her lips as she thought deeply.
"I can't be sure," she admitted. "But a vision with such a grand impact could only mean that real disaster is on the way. It could mean that your hometown is really in danger, and disaster is coming."
Quinn felt his stomach tangle up in knots. He couldn't bear it. The vision was still very fresh in his head. He took a moment to settle his thoughts before asking the question.
"I-is there a way to stop it?"
Holiday thought intently.
"I don't know. But I do know the gods wouldn't have given you the vision without good reason. Maybe you're supposed figure out how to stop it. Did you see anything else when you were in it? Any kind of detail could provide a clue."
Quinn scratched his head. He closed his eyes and tried to think back. The problem was the horrific memory was still so real that he couldn't shake it. Which made remembering other details difficult.
Holiday sighed. She dropped her hands, treaded around the desk to their side and touched Quinn's shoulder. Her maternal touch somehow lightened made him feel warmth and relief, like a weight had been lifted off his shoulders.
"It's okay, Quinn, you don't need to force yourself," she said gently.
Quinn met her eyes. The light green that reflected genuine sympathy. He didn't know if it was because she was a headmistress or because she was a mother, but her gentle expression made him think back to the mother who gave him to the McAlesters before he had a chance to memorize her.
Keegan took his hand and ran his fingers on the back. It was slightly colder to the touch than the fae woman's, but the calming effect was stronger by a mile. Keegan looked tenderly into his eyes. His insides melted at the tenderness.
Holiday pulled her hand away from his shoulder. The burdening feeling came back at an exponential rate. The memory of the vision reappeared like a TV screen being turned on and all the images came back at once. It was unsettling to the core. But not nearly as heavy as it was before Keegan touched him.
As much as he rejoiced in his boyfriend's embrace, Holiday's question was more important to answer. Quinn closed his eyes and thought back as much as possible.
"Um... I think right before the storms started, there was this light that shot up to the sky like a rocket. Except there was no smoke. And then it exploded in the sky, and right after that the disasters started happening. Could it mean something?"
Holiday was quiet in thoughts for a moment before she answered. "I don't know. But it's likely that tower of light is an important clue to what the gods tried to show you."
