Quinn

Kylie nodded at the mention of Quinn's mother.

Not the response I was expecting.

"Quinn!"

Quinn turned toward the voice several paces away. There on the ground lay Blake, who was no longer wearing the Aztec mask. There was an unfamiliar part-Asian woman, brown-haired bulky male beside him, and Burnett James.

Joy and relief filled Quinn's heart so much that it all burst out of him. He ran toward his friend. Blake met him in the middle and they wrapped their arms around each other.

His throat rippled in a mix of sob and laughter. "Oh my God. I'm so glad you're okay."

"What happened?" Blake asked.

"I wanna know that myself."

"You guys are okay."

The boys turned to the new voice and spotted Ana María flying through a gigantic hole of broken bricks and debris. Perry and Miranda followed on foot. Meanwhile, he noticed the rummage inside the factory and the STF agents who were riling up some of the gangsters. Director Potter limped toward them.

"Whoa. Who are all those people?" Blake pointed at the newcomers.

After a brief introduction, Della Tsang gave them the Cliff Notes' version of what transpired while they were possessed. Quinn furrowed his eyebrows at all that new information that had just been stuffed inside his brain. It felt so tight that he could feel it pounding against his skull.

Now I understand the expression, "my head is gonna explode".

"Thankfully, we all managed to save you guys," Miranda chimed in. "And once I put a containment spell on those masks, they won't be able to be used anymore."

Quinn glanced at Blake, who had the same shocked expression that mirrored his own. Ana María tried to remain composed... and failing. He wished Ron were there to console him. The man's nerdy word of advice always kept him focused and grounded. But he doubted the man would be in such a dangerous place.

Ana María–Catamount–tapped him on the shoulder to get his attention. She did the same with Helion too. "Let's help rile up the rest of the gang."

Quinn mentally donned the Blue Spekter persona and compartmentalized everything he was feeling before he nodded. Helion nodded as well. They then followed the team back into the factory. Agents were cuffing injured gangsters while the rest of the team tended to the injured. Most of the vampires were left with no choice but to surrender.

"Did anyone see Espinoza?" Burnett asked, his fangs practically pricking at his lower lip. His eyes glowed blood red.

Blue Spekter cast a glance around the place. It was too dark for regular human eyes, but not for him or Helion or Catamount.

"You don't have to look far."

Everyone turned to where they heard the voice. In the far corner behind the girders and beams keeping the catwalk upright stood a middle-aged male Latino. Blue Spekter surmised him to be Espinoza, the warlock. His clothes were torn and there was blood trailing down his head, but none of that concealed the anger in his eyes. He held what looked like a large tome in his hands.

That must be the spellbook Miranda told us about.

"It's over, Espinoza," Burnett said with an authoritative tone. "You can either give up or you can make it hard for yourself."

Espinoza didn't waver.

"I've got a better idea. You could all die with this town."

Della hissed. She lurched at the man at vampiric speed. Bam! Inches before she reached him, she slammed into something hard, solid, and invisible. Her whole body bounced back from the impact. Before anyone could react, Chase flashed across the warehouse and caught her before she hit the hard ground. Everyone stared in shock. Burnett was the first to recover. He sprang at the man only to meet the same fate. Helion caught him with telekinesis. Nothing happened.
