Miranda

The possessed trio of superhumans stared at the team for a moment. And then all hell broke loose. Some of the agents closest to them tossed smoke grenades enchanted with Miranda's impromptu spell for exorcism. Once the heroes inhaled them, the spell would be able to force the demons out of them.

The grenades all flew in the same direction. Suddenly they stopped. Suspended in midair.

Boom!

Perry wrapped his arms around Miranda to shield her from the enveloping smoke. Everyone else gagged from the chemicals.

This is bad.

Miranda snuck her hand from under Perry's strong arms and waved it around to release the spell she was casting with her mind.

Clear.

The smoke evaporated in a matter of seconds like it never existed.

Helion cast a glance at something behind them. Suddenly, Lucas's scream echoed through the walls. He stopped the same time something (or rather someone) fell to the concrete floor a few feet from them with a loud thud. Miranda glanced where she heard the noise and saw Lucas lying flat on the floor. Lying under him was an unconscious Agent Sharpe. He had a bleeding head wound.

Shawn rose quickly, drew out his sword and charged at the Guardians. Catamount turned her head to Shawn. Her movement was somewhat mechanic. Shawn immediately lost his footing and then he went flying in the other direction. He hit the wall on the far side and landed on his stomach with a cracking sound. Miranda screamed, horrified that some of his bones had been broken.

"Yes. That's good," the warlock leader said loudly, "Now, get the rest of them!"

Miranda peered over Perry's shoulders. Several agents were being telekinetically flung off their feet and thrown into the walls behind them. Some of them crashed into the cages she conjured up, the impact made caused a rattle that echoed across the spacious room and almost made her dizzy.

Miranda peered back up at Espinoza and a choking Burnett suspended in the air.

"Miranda, run!" Perry urged, unwrapping his arms from around her.

Magical bubbles materialized and enveloped Perry's body. Suddenly, as the bubbles cleared, an albino rhino the size of a bulldozer appeared where he stood. Rhino Perry roared with a high-pitched roar that reflected his anger. The trio just stood there, looking nonchalant. Unimpressed.

Panic washed over Miranda. She didn't want to run. She couldn't. She wouldn't. No way was she going to abandon everyone she loves to save herself. But even with the conviction, reality seemed to be stronger for the moment. How was she going to stop three demon-possessed superhumans if she didn't know how to dispossess them?

By allowing another possession.

Miranda whirled around. The voice came so suddenly that she didn't know where it came from. No one was standing next to her. She was all alone. But she was sure she heard someone talk right next to her ear.

Heavy stomping on the ground made her look back to Perry, who was charging at the trio with the speed of a wolf. He launched off the ground. He didn't make it far. Instead he froze, suspended in midair like time had stopped. That wasn't the case though, because his limbs were thrashing back and forth, his snout barked with protest as he fought to break free of the telekinetic hold that was keeping him trapped.

Helion raised one hand and pinched his thumb and index finger together the same time something echoed from inside Perry's. It sounded like a bone being cracked. Perry gave a horrifying scream. Miranda frantically searched through her mind for any kind of spell that could help. A spell to cancel out magic. But it wasn't really magic they were up against. Demon exorcism? Would that even work?
