Quinn

Quinn and Blake met their science teacher, Ron St. Germain, in his office during lunchtime. Today was the last day of school before spring break, but they needed to tell their teacher about what happened the previous night to get his opinion. While Mr. St. Germain was mainly their science teacher at the local high school, he was also a comic book nerd, who had been tutoring them on heroism since they let him in on their secret. That expertise landed him a part-time job at the STF as a superhero-and-villain-expert. Even the government agents had a hard time dealing with that.

"Are you kidding me?" said Ron, after they finished telling him everything.

The boys shook their heads. Ron stared with eyes so wide they might fall out of their sockets, convenient after hearing the crazy story they just told him.

"Those Mexican gangsters had powers? How is that possible? Do you think Victor recruited them?"

"That's what Chief Applegate thinks too, and it's their lead theory," Blake said, "But something doesn't add up. Those guys barely put up a fight, and they had these weird fangs. We don't have fangs." He pointed between himself and Quinn. "And their strengths were more than human, but it was definitely not as strong as ours." A new thought occurred right then. "And I didn't sense them either."

"Yeah, come to think of it," Quinn chimed in, "I didn't sense them either. And they were surprised when they caught us, so that probably means they didn't sense us either."

"So, what? Are you saying we're dealing with something entirely new?"

Blake shrugged.

"I don't know. All I know is those guys heard me when my ear comm spoke while I was like fifteen feet in the air, and then their eyes glowed and their teeth turned into fangs. And before I knew it, they were flying towards me. I could barely defend myself against five of them because they kept scattering about. Then one of those Mexican guys zapped me with electricity and took off when this mist suddenly appeared out of nowhere."

"And on top of that, the guys who took off with the goods vanished into thin air. Literally," Quinn added. "I tried to find them with my super hearing, but all I could hear was the fighting."

Ron rested his elbows on his desk, clasped his fingers together and rested his lips on them. Quinn couldn't blame him for feeling the shock of more superpowered humans. They put a stop to Victor Kraze's dark plans four months ago, so there was no reason to believe more superhumans should exist because they had already shut down the facilities supervised by the Order. But last night seemed to have thrown them off.

"Sounds like there's more to this than just smuggling," he said without looking up. "I can't begin to even guess why it happened or how it was possible but considering the Flash from the TV show took 'til season two to learn about infinite Earths, I suppose anything could be possible." He looked up at Blake. "You say those guys had fangs?"

Blake nodded.

"What did those fangs look like?"

Blake made a scrunched face. "Hell should I know. Large, sharp-like needles with scary looking eyes. If you ask me, they looked a helluva lot like vampires."

Quinn wasn't sure if he believed that. There couldn't be vampires. They were just fiction. But how did they explain last night–

No. Let's find out what's really happened first, he told himself, deciding to stick to logic.

Ron stood from his desk. "Okay, we only got twenty minutes before lunch ends. Here's my advice, you guys should definitely look into it. Blake, you check with your source and find out what you can. Quinn, this Akimura gang can't be involved for no reason, so contact Captain Prett and see if his team can find out anything about them and what they deal with. I will keep in touch with the STF." He started collecting his notes. "In the meantime, try to enjoy your break in any way you can. You guys may be the Guardians of Portsmouth, but you're also teenagers and you deserve a break now and again. Even if only for a short while."
