On Wednesday morning, Jamie and I were getting ready for school when my phone rang. "Jamie, come here. Mom and Dad are calling again. We both sat down on the couch and I answered the phone. "What's up?" My mother was looking less worried. "Things are going okay. Trevor took us to a safe house. I suppose the security isn't very good, but Trevor, your father, and I are the only people who know the location." I was still concerned. Jamie clearly was too. "Of course I trust Trevor. He is practically family. What if the Hybrid Hunters somehow followed you, though?" She said. "Have you tried reaching out to the police?" I asked. My father walked into the room. "Yes, we have. Trevor is friends with an officer that has magic. He can change the appearance of anything. Animate or inanimate His name is Frank Hoffman. He can't do much, but he promised that he would call you if anything happens." I frowned. "If anything happens, you better call us yourselves." Jamie nodded in agreement. Our parents looked pained. "Girls...we can't guarantee that we will make it next time," my dad said. Jamie gasped. "Don't talk like that!" My mom, who had walked a bit further away, suddenly let out a piercing scream. I blanched. "Honey, what's wrong?" My mother was sobbing. "Trevor he- he's dead!" My father ran forward. "Damn it," he muttered. "We need to leave." My mother screamed again. I saw people with guns wearing masks. "Sorry, old friend," my dad said as he dug car keys out of Trevor's pocket. "I will do everything in my power to make sure you are remembered." My father's voice was full of guilt and sorrow. I saw tears fall. That was the first time I saw my father cry. He hung up. Jamie and I sat still for a moment, not sure what to do. She spoke first. "What the hell just happened?" I shook my head slowly. "We both threw up, so we definitely can't go to any classes. We better email all of our professors." Jamie looked surprised, but knew not to question me. She knew that if I was planning on lying, she could not change my mind. She stood up and walked away then came back with our laptops. "We better text our friends too," she said softly. "Because we are sick and have spent a lot of time with them. We must warn them," I added. We were both speaking robotically. After emailing my professors, I pulled out my phone and messaged the group chat with all of my friends in it.

Me: You guys will never believe what happened...

Jamie: We both vomited.

Lilly: Oh no! Get better soon ❤️.

Amelia: Damn. That sucks.

Jeff: Does this mean I can't kiss you?

Liam: Dude! Gross: The vomit part and the kissing part.

I chuckled. Surprisingly, even briefly talking to my friends had helped slightly. I still felt extremely uneasy though. "Jamie," I whispered. "What?" I closed my eyes. "What are we going to do if our parents die?" She was silent for a moment. "I don't know. At the moment, we just need to pray that they will be alright." We settled down on the couch and curled up with each other. We each offered the kind of comfort that only a sister can provide. Eventually we both fell asleep. When we woke, it was to the sound of my phone ringing.
