On the way back from Ella's choir event, I would not stop teasing her. "I knew this day would come," I joked as we got into my car and I pulled out of the parking spot. Ella rolled her eyes, but her face was bright red. "I wasn't thinking!" She stammered. "Oh, come on, Ella. You know you like him." Ella grimaced. "I'm probably going to regret that decision for the rest of my life," she murmured. "Oooor it's going to change your life forever," I said mysteriously. "Jamie, you are the last person I would expect to be so cheesy. Oh wait, I forgot. You're always like this," she snapped sarcastically. I only laughed. "You kissed Thomas Thornebrook. What else can I say?" I shrugged like it was obvious. Ella groaned. "You are so immature," she complained. I grinned and replied with, "I know."

At least I fell asleep very quickly. I doubted Ella was the same. On Tuesday, my classes flew by, and soon enough it was time to go to dinner with Jake. The moment we got into the car I started talking about the night before. Jake was very busy with homework, so he unfortunately couldn't go. They'd had to find a last minute pianist. "You will never guess what Ella did yesterday at the choir concert," I began. "Jamie, no," Ella begged. "It was absolutely insane..." I paused dramatically while my sister groaned, "Why can't you get over it!" "SHE KISSED THOMAS!" I announced. Jake gasped aloud. "No way. I thought she hated him." I grinned. "Ella's love language is very strange, I will give her that." Ella rolled her eyes and elbowed me. "You're proving my point." Jake smiled. "I mean, that's great for you. Thomas is pretty nice," he admitted. Ella sighed. "Can we talk about something else? Jamie has a boyfriend too." I shrugged. "Yeah, but I can't help tormenting my little sister." "I'm a year younger than you," Ella muttered. "Anyways, she did amazing at the concert. The whole choir did," I said, deciding that I didn't want to annoy her more, despite my impulses. Jake nodded. "I hope I can play next time." I grinned. He was a great pianist, and the choir would absolutely benefit from him being there. Nothing against the pianist they had for the last one. We pulled into the parking lot, then got out. It was a pretty fancy place. When we got inside, the waiter ordered our food quickly. "So, Jake... what about you? Do you have anyone who..." my voice trailed off and I smirked. Jake flushed. "What? No. Uh, not really, actually." I sighed. "Boooring." He raised an eyebrow at me. "How is Jeff?" I tensed. Was he going to get angry at me again? Ella would also join in if he did. They both weren't fans of Jeff. "He's a lot better. He's not questioning me every time we hang out anymore. We also..." my voice trailed off. "We may have had our first kiss." Ella smiled. I could tell she was a little pained but she was trying. "Well, I'm happy that he's... better." I sighed. Our food came only moments later so we stopped talking. "Mmmm, this looks delicious!" I exclaimed as I looked down at my pizza. Ella rolled her eyes. "Jamie. They have a giant menu of amazing, professionally cooked dishes and you chose pizza?" I chuckled sheepishly. "What can I say? I love pizza." Ella gave me a look, but Jake shrugged. "I can't argue with that." We continued talking. I told Jake about my classes, and he told us about his. He was really having fun with piano, and was absolutely flying through journalism. "I can't believe it's only been- what? Around a month since school started. It feels so long," I sighed. "But hey, it's a lot better than regular school. We get to choose our own classes, after all." Ella nodded. "Well, it's getting late. We should probably head back now." The three of us paid our bill then walked out to the car. When we got back to the dorms, we waved goodbye to Jake. He waved back, smiling softly. I took one last glance at him. My best friend for as long as I could remember. I didn't want to lose him- and I almost did. I was so happy we were okay again.
