I went through the school day as usual. It was great that Ella and Jamie were back in class, but I still hoped they really were okay. After the miracle they had seen, though, I was sure they would be fine. During lunch, I could tell they were happier. "We cleaned up the entire dorm yesterday," Jamie announced proudly. "The next time we hang out, all of you should come to our dorm." Ella rolled her eyes playfully. "And ruin all of that hard work? I'm looking at you, Thomas Thornebrook." Thomas laughed and held his hands up. "What can I say? I just stuff all the things I have under the bed." "Of course you do," Ella said. We all laughed. Once lunch was over, I went to my next class.

Lilly and I went to our dorm right after school. We didn't have much homework, so we were chilling on the couch, watching a show on Lilly's laptop. Though we were barely paying any attention. We were laughing and making stupid jokes. Most people didn't see that side of Lilly. It was nice that I got to. I supposed it was fair. After all, she had known me from the darkest part in my life to the brightest. I kept thinking about that, ever since I told Ella and Jamie about my father. That made me snap. I couldn't take it anymore. My mother never stopped crying. I remembered the look on my little brother's face when he was told, and how he locked himself in his room all the time, and forgot about the rest of his life. Sometimes he would be so disoriented that he really did forget. He would ask when Dad was coming home from work. I pushed everyone away. I fell into the worst time of my life, and Lilly was the one who saved me. She was the only one who seemed to care. I remembered the wind whipping my hair around my face, and her voice, calling out to me in a panic. I snapped out of my thoughts when Lilly spoke. "Why are you looking at me like that?" She asked, giving me a strange look. I smiled and said, "I'm just... happy we met." Lilly broke out into a smile too, and placed her hand over mine. "I am too." For a while after that, we sat in silence; still not watching the show, but deep in thought. "I feel bad for saying this after everything going on, but I'm at a good point in my life. With what we're doing to help hybrids, I feel better... better than I was before. I felt so insignificant back then. Now we have a whole friend group. People to love," I whispered eventually, still staring off into space. "Honestly," Lilly started, turning to look me in the eyes. "Even though things recently have been bad for all of us, especially Jamie and Ella... I feel like things are beginning to look up." I smiled softly, then I leaned in and the two of us kissed.
