On Tuesday, Jeff and I were chilling in his dorm room. I was off to a good start on the next section of the orchestra project, so I decided I could take a bit of a break. My presentation for the first section the day before went really well. Plus, nobody had classes for the rest of the week so I would have plenty of time over the next two days. I had my head on Jeff's shoulder. We stayed like that for a while, until his phone notification went off. He rolled his eyes, turning his phone on and looking at it. His eyes suddenly widened and he turned off his phone swiftly. I frowned and asked, "What's wrong?" Jeff paused, then smiled softly. "It's nothing bad. I just have to go somewhere for a little while. I'll explain tomorrow morning," he explained. I nodded, moving back. "Alright..." I murmured, but I was starting to get worried. Did something bad happen? Jeff kissed me, then got to his feet. I followed him out of the room. Before he left, I stopped him. "Are you sure it's okay?" I whispered. Jeff nodded. "Yeah. I can't tell you right now, but I promise I'll explain tomorrow," he said, then turned without another word and walked down the hallway. I made my way back to my dorm. Ella was still awake, sitting on the floor. She had a book in her hands. When she looked up, she gave me a look. "What is it? Did you finally realize-" I cut her off, annoyed. "No. I'm just worried about Jeff. He ran off in a hurry to go do something." Ella's gaze darkened. "Jamie, that's not good. You know what that could mean..." I sighed. "Really, Ella? You need to stop it with this. I'm worried because he seemed worried. What if something bad happened?" She laughed darkly. "Yeah, he's doing something bad, I'm sure. I think he's cheating." I scoffed. "I've had enough of this-" Just then, there was a knock on the door. I paused, adding, "This isn't over." Then I opened it. Jake stood there, and he looked worried. "Guys, Jeff just went down the stairs with a girl. He had his arm around her. Wasn't he supposed to be with you, Jamie? Also, the girl who I saw is the same person that I saw in the car." I paled. Ella walked up to us swiftly. "You see?" I shook my head- I refused to believe it. "Jamie!" She snapped. I sighed. "I'll go check it out." I raced towards the stairs and down them. Where could they be going...? I wondered. Then I saw him. Sure enough, his arm was around a girl with curly blonde hair put up in a ponytail, in a very romantic way. Jeff and her moved up against the wall, and he kissed her. I stopped dead in my tracks. For a moment, I couldn't think of anything to say, do, or think. I could barely feel a thing. Then it hit me. I stepped into view. "Jeff." He immediately pulled back when he heard my voice, eyes wide. "Jamie!? What are you doing here?" He immediately dropped his arms. The girl looked confused. "What's going on? Who's this?" She asked. I scoffed. "So, she doesn't know either? Huh. Sounds about right." Jeff chuckled nervously, which made me flush with anger. "It's a misunderstanding. She's-" The other girl realized now. "A... misunderstanding? So I really mean nothing to you?" she whispered. "Jeff..." Her eyes filled with tears, and she ran. He looked absolutely devastated, which made me even more angry. Then he turned to me and tried to say, "I can explain." I laughed. For some reason, when I get extremely angry and upset I laugh, of all things. "You don't need to explain. I already know. You cheated on me. Easy and simple. I don't care for all the gory details." Jeff looked awfully pale. "Jamie... I love you. You know that, right?" I snapped. "Oh, I love you but I'm also going to kiss another girl and not say anything about it to me or her." He grimaced, but I could tell the pain in his eyes was fake. He didn't love me. He probably never had. "Ella was right," I spat. I smacked him hard then spun around and walked away. I wasn't the type to cry often. I just got mad. Then maybe later I would break down... but not where Jeff could see. I couldn't let him know I was so upset that I was going to cry over him. When I was walking back to my dorm, I heard sobbing. I froze. The girl that he cheated on me with. I followed the sound, and knocked on the door gently. "GO AWAY, Jeff! I don't want to talk to you!" The girl snapped. "No. I'm not Jeff. HE cheated on me, too. I understand if you don't want to see me, either, but I want to make sure you're... decently okay." There was a pause, then footsteps. The door opened. "Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry that happened," she whispered. "I swear I had no idea." I shook my head helplessly. "Neither of us did." I held out my hand to her. "So it's not your fault. Not at all. It's Jeff's." The girl took my hand. "My name is Jamie," I introduced myself. The girl wiped the remainder of her tears away. "Harmony," she whispered. I smiled softly. "I know it's hard under such circumstances, but I hope we can be good friends."
