When Amelia and Lilly left about fifteen minutes later, I was done. For whatever reason, Amelia, Lilly, Ella, and Jamie would mysteriously disappear over the weekends after each dinner to do things that had nothing to do with each other, according to their words. Usually it was only on Friday and Saturday, but now it was Sunday too. No matter what, one group would leave around fifteen minutes after the other. I needed to find out what was happening. I went up to Jamie and Ella's dorm and knocked. There was no answer. "Ella? Jamie!? Are you in there?" Still nothing. I twisted the knob, but didn't expect it to actually open. My eyes widened. Had they forgotten to lock it when they were putting their bags away? They claimed they were unpacking now, but they didn't seem to be in their room. I felt bad for snooping, but I walked in. Everything seemed ordinary, until I went into the bedroom to see if they were in there- just in case. They weren't. But there was a map on the strewn out on the bed. "Huh?" I mumbled, walking closer to inspect it. I picked it up carefully. This had to give me answers. I recognized the forest in the picture. I could go there now. I rushed out of the room, being sure to close it and lock it when I left.

I walked through the forest, trying my best to be quiet. I followed the trail the map told me to, until I heard the rushing of a waterfall. What could they be doing out here? I wondered. I heard laughing, and I ducked behind a tree quickly. I peered out from behind it and saw them. Lilly, Amelia, Ella, and Jamie. But something was absolutely wrong. My head spun. Was I hallucinating? Was this a dream? Or rather some kind of nightmare, I supposed. Jamie had giant flaming wings, and she flew above the water. Ella was swimming, but she had a mermaid tail. Lilly also had smaller wings, and Amelia was flashing in and out of sight. I felt like I had been punched in the gut and stabbed in the back at the same time. I stumbled, my foot coming down on a branch. It snapped, and all four of them turned towards the sound. I held back a gasp and pressed my back to the tree. I could hear Ella saying something, but I didn't even process the words. I felt like I was going to throw up. They're... hybrids? No, no. This has to be a dream. I've known them my whole life. My hands were shaking. My parents hate hybrids. My whole family does. They can't be... I could barely focus on one of my thoughts, there were so many emotions running through me. The one thing I managed to do was the worst thing I'd ever decided to do- without thinking, I pulled out my phone.

Calling the Hybrid Hunters was as easy as dialing 911.

It was the only logical thing to do when encountering a hybrid. We had been taught what to do in school, like they were monsters. Monsters who would kill on sight if they ever saw us. But Jamie and Ella weren't monsters. My finger hovered above the call button. I breathed deeply. I have to do this. Then I pressed the button.
