" Where did you go yesterday? ," Andrew asked as he was dressing for the day in their bedroom. " And what the hell are you hiding from me? "
Glory sat up in bed , her arms folded over the chest that felt like it was mocking her. She still didn't want to tell him. Or her children. Or anyone really. She wanted to just go back in time to where she was blissfully ignorant of all this stuff. Go back and just freeze it.
But she couldn't.
Andrew looked at his quiet wife with her brooding eyes and he just sank down to the bed. There was something wrong. He knew it.
( " Of course I'm having an affair," Doris laughed. " You didn't really think someone like me could possibly stay faithful to someone like you, did you? Oh you poor poor fool. " )
He needed to ask her one question. Just one question. If he got the wrong answer his next move was out of the house in search of a liquor store.
" Glory? Are you having an affair? '
Glory sat up even straighter in bed. Her cheeks flushed bright red. She grabbed a pillow and tossed it at his startled face. " You idiot ! You should know better! Why the hell would I ever cheat on you? Damn fool man. "
Andrew picked up the pillow and just stared at it. " Then what is it? Because something isn't right. You're hiding something from me. "
Glory looked over his shoulder and to her amazement saw a faint image of her mother on her death bed. She blinked her eyes and all of a sudden it was good and gone.
" Andrew, I found a lump. I went to the doctor. It's cancer. "
