" Joy sent me an email, " DuBuis said as he took his bipolar and high blood pressure pills with his hot black coffee. " Apparently she and Jas Lucas , a friend of hers from the Eastern Shore who is coming to the UUC to preach, are planning a Support Faith rally on Thursday afternoon. I just might ask Gerald if I can leave early for it. Faith is my sister after all. "

Spencer was tickling Miracle on her tummy as she sat in the high chair. She laughed and bounced up and down with glee. " I don't know, sweetie. That could be dangerous. That brother of hers is having daily rallies there and when he does rallies they end badly. And what if those racists show up? I think they are the ones who put the noose in Richard's tree."

DuBuis made a face as he lifted up their foster daughter and kissed her on the forehead before cradling her in his big muscled arms. " I ain't scared of none of them. Especially not Lazarus Jones. Anyway I'll be on Joy's side if I go. Joy is peaceful on the level of Dr. King. I don't know how a family tree has her and that brother of hers on it. "

Luci was on FireBook and noticed a post on the newly added Barrington Academy Black Lives Matter group page. Ironically it was about the rally that Joy was putting on at the courthouse.  " Maybe I'll go too. Mr. Johnson, the civics teacher, said online he was going to take any students who want to attend. It's extra credit in class too. "

DuBuis shook his head. " No. You kids are not going to the rally. Or any rallies. Extra credit or not. I'm a grown man. I can handle myself. You all..... nope. You're staying in school that day. Besides I doubt Gerald will give permission for anything like that. And even if he does the parents won't. "

Luci pouted. " I don't see why I can't go. This house is more dangerous than any rally. "

Sol and Theodore looked at each other over their oatmeal wordlessly, their eyes in full agreement.
