Trigger Warning: Suicide, violence , trauma.
Diamond Dennis hated her life. She was tired of being who she was. She was just Zora's little stupid screw up friend. She was tired of being Zora's shadow. She missed Sidnei so bad. Now Sidnei was her real friend. Ever since kindergarten they had been friends. Then Sidnei had died and it was all Zora's fault. She had made Sidnei take the drugs that day in her house. It was not supposed to hurt her but nobody knew that Sidnei was sick. Not even Sidnei. Zora said it was her parents' fault for not telling anyone about the heart defect. Zora never cared. Just like when she killed her cat.
Just like when she played the prank on Mr. Giadello. Mr. Giadello was nice. He didn't deserve it. Not at all. She wished she hadn't helped Zora then. Maybe if she hadn't things wouldn't have gone so bad. Now that everyone knew people looked down on them especially her. Zora always seemed to escape everything. Just like she was out sick today. She always escaped everything.
As Mr. Anderson was discussing some boring scientific facts in front of the seventh grade science class Diamond leaned forward to reach into her backpack. Her parents hated guns. They would hate her having this but she had saved up her allowance so she could buy it from Kyle Samson. He said it was a 22. She didn't understand what difference a number made. They had security now but the school wouldn't allow them to search bags and they didn't have a metal detector. It was easy to sneak it in.
She reached in the bag and pulled out the gun.
At the sight of the weapon Willow Malden began to scream and so did several other students, mostly girls. Except for Luci Moore who just sat in her seat with big wide eyes and trembling lips.
Mr. Anderson stopped lecturing and he actually turned paler than ever. He swallowed hard. He looked scared. His hand was shaking as he lifted it up and at her. " Diamond, please give me the gun ," he said in a firm but shaky voice. " Please. "
" No , " she said in a stronger voice than she had ever had before. " No. I don't want to. "
Lewis Norland stood up slowly. He too looked pale. Richie Jenkins tried to pull him back down in his seat. Lewis just shrugged him off.
" Listen to Mr. Anderson, Diamond," Lewis said. " Please put it down. It's okay. "
Sol swallowed and stood up as well. He moved to stand in front of Luci.
Diamond screamed ," Everyone stop moving ! Just stop ! "
Lewis said ," Diamond ......"
" Shut up ! This is all your fault ! And Zora ! If you had not snitched ! "
Then she pointed the gun at Lewis and fired it once.
Richie screamed as Lewis stumbled backwards with blood on his chest and fell on the hardwood floor. His eyes were wide and scared. His lips said simply," Dad...... Dad..... Nigel...... I need....."
Richie ran to him on the floor as others in the class screamed and ran out of the classroom. Footsteps were heard running towards the classroom and voices were yelling outside as well.
Lyle Anderson stood in speechless horror as he watched his students fleeing, as he watched Richie crying next to a palefaced pained Lewis, as he saw Luci and Sol running to help Lewis.
He couldn't move. Why couldn't he move ? His students were in danger. He should do something. Anything. But he couldn't move. At all. He couldn't even scream.
Then Diamond put the gun in her mouth and pulled the trigger.
Then he screamed. And screamed. And screamed.
