As they heard the gunshot Glory and Andrew were huddled as close to the barrier as the police would allow them to get. They had immediately driven from their house , breaking all traffic laws , to the restaurant as soon as they had heard about the robbery. Glory clung to her husband's arm as he spoke to his older son on the phone he held.
Richard stood in the bedroom , talking on his phone lower than normal so none of the kids heard him. " Was that a gunshot, Dad ? ," he asked in a panicked voice. " What is going on?"

The police rushed into the restaurant to find Skip Sands on the floor next to his gun moaning in pain , Alfred crying as he held Gerald in his arms and Nigel holding his calm faced mother Matilda who also held a small black pistol.
Matilda looked at the police firmly. " I shot the bloody bastard, Officers. He tried to kill my son. The gun is legal by the way. "
