Andrew could not stand anymore waiting. He had to get out of the hospital. It didn't matter if Spencer and Nigel, Alfred and Gerald, wanted him to stay put where they could watch him with compassionate and pitying eyes. He couldn't take it anymore. Waiting for news about his wife who was still in surgery and worrying that he might never see her again.
Which was how he found himself walking away from the hospital with no particular route in mind. He was just walking. Walking and trying not to think about anything.
Which was how he found himself in the liquor store staring at his favorite bottle of whiskey. As usual it called him by name almost. As his hand reached out for it his phone rang. He glanced at it and sighed.
Faith.
" I'm fine," he answered.
Faith laughed bitterly. " Yes. Right. Pull my other leg. Your wife is having breast cancer surgery right now. You ain't ok , Andrew. " She paused briefly. " Don't buy it. "
Andrew sucked in a breath. " Don't buy what? ," he asked as he grabbed the bottle and headed for the counter where the cashier was busy wiping down the register for some odd reason. He put it down and the woman picked it up to scan with a bored sigh.
Faith suddenly appeared at his side, her phone still up against her ear, her other hand touching his arm. " Don't buy that. "
Andrew laughed abruptly and the cashier looked at him with alarm saying," That'll be twenty nine ninety nine. "
Ignoring the cashier he said to Faith," Are you following me? "
Faith snorted ," Now would I do that? That would make me a weird ass stalker like Roman what's his face harassing Lyle. And I ain't. I'm just a friend concerned about you. Don't buy it. Glory needs you. Especially now."
" Now ? "
" Yeah. Now. Nigel texted me. They're trying to reach you but you just ain't answering your phone they say. Least not for them I guess. Your wife is out of surgery. There were a few complications but she is ok now. After a couple hours in recovery she can go home. "
Andrew looked from the bottle to the cashier who waited impatiently to Faith and back to the bottle.
Faith said," You don't need it. You need a clear head for Glory. And...... I need you too. I need you more than you know. "
Andrew sighed. " I'm sorry I bothered you," he replied to the cashier. " I don't think I will be purchasing this item. "
Not today anyway, he thought to himself.
