" What's that thing next door? ," the mailman grumbled as he handed the day's bills and what not to Spencer on his front porch.
Spencer looked at the house next door which he could just barely see due to the hideously ugly brick walled fence that Simms woman had put up. He made a face. " That thing is called LuLu Simms. Pronounced erroneously Salmon but people with brains know is really Simms. "
The mailman laughed heartily. Now this neighbor he liked , he thought fondly as he shook his head and waved his arm at the walled fence. " No. I mean that.... that thing there. Why would she build that awful thing? It blocks out every little bit of sun really. You should notify your HOA. "
Spencer sighed. " We don't have one. Unfortunately. But at least we don't have to see her as much now. I guess some fences do make good neighbors. "
The mailman kept laughing and shaking his head as he hefted his bag up to continue on his way. Then his eyes widened and his feet began to move faster as he saw her leaving her yard. She was getting big as a house. That could not be just one baby. More like six. He smiled as he pictured that foul woman with six crying babies.
LuLu stamped her feet and then began to waddle fast past the mailman in the direction of Spencer still sitting on his porch going through the mail.
" You ! ," LuLu bellowed as she pointed her finger at him accusingly. " You awful little man. You terrible man. You are so dreadful. You give a bad name to people in wheelchairs everywhere! "
Spencer rolled his eyes behind his glasses. " Good morning to you too, Mrs. Whatever. How are you today? "
" Don't give me that polite shit ! I know it was you ! You called the county and complained about my beautiful fence. That stupid county executive wants me to take it down. Said something about it being a neighborhood nuisance or something. I know it was you. Now Jonah is upset over having to pay to take it down. You'll pay for this one. "
Spencer shook his head. " LuLu , I've paid since you moved in next door. And I didn't call anyone at the county government. Although I wish I had now that I think about it. "
He really hadn't made any calls. Although, he smiled wryly , he had complained about the wall or fence or whatever it was supposed to be in texts to Winston and his half brother had mentioned having a few connections still with the local government. He hadn't asked Winston to interfere. And Winston hadn't said he interfered. But if he had Spencer was very thankful to him. And so was the sun yearning roses in his garden.
" Liar ! ," she screeched at him. Then she took a deep breath and struggled to regain her composure. " Well you and your family will get yours back. The trial against that trigger happy cop sister in law of yours is next week. And I am one of the star witnesses against her. Now she'll know how my Jimmy felt being railroaded for something he did not do."
Spencer said firmly," He actually admits that he participated in the robberies including the one in which I was.... shot. He hasn't talked to me or his brother but I know that much. I believe he feels regret. "
LuLu smirked at him ," The only one who will feel regret is your sister in law the racist against White people trigger happy pig. Oh and check out the Reign today. Nice little story about your shyster brother finding a noose at his house. "
Spencer paled under his tan at the words " noose " and" his house ". He ignored her and reached for the newspaper still on the porch. It had been a rushed morning and DuBuis hadn't had a moment to grab it off the porch.
He needed to read that article and then call Richard. Or Nigel. Or both.
