Episode 169

After Amanda had finished questioning LuLu and she was dismissed from the stand Kenneth Zoss called to the stand Montgomery County uniformed patrolman Ted Young who looked like an overgrown boy scout in his uniform. He even had a little peach fuzz visible on his handsome young face.

Kenneth asked many questions in his pondering long winded style and eventually sat back down after establishing that Ted Young stated that Faith Lane attacked him and tried to remove his service weapon from his holster. His response had been to defend himself and place her under arrest immediately.

Jeremiah stood up and buttoned his suit  jacket carefully and slowly. Then he strode confidently over to the officer. He smiled at him smoothly like they were two old friends sharing a beer or a blunt. " Officer Young, you have a girlfriend, don't you? "

Ted Young blinked his eyes in shocked surprise. " Yeah. Why ? "

" Is her name Audrey Ford ? Is she Black? "

" Objection ! ," Kenneth shouted out. " What is the point of these questions? "

L.L. looked puzzled as well. " Yes. I agree. Sustained. Mr. Duncan, please..... "

Jeremiah said ," Please bear with me, your honor. " Turning back to the officer , he asked," Is she ? '

" Yeah. Yes. Why ? What's she got to do with this? '

" Because I checked your cell phone records, sir. Shortly before you stopped my client Detective Lane , who bears a strong resemblance to your girlfriend ironically, the records show that you and Ms. Ford exchanged some fiery texts in which you were accused of cheating and then Ms. Ford broke up with you. Messy. All this happened before you pulled over my client for a simple speeding violation. Were you angry, sir ? "

Ted snapped sharply as he stared back at Jeremiah. " I was not..... She was ..... disrespectful ! It had nothing to do with......"

" Your bad temper ? "

Kenneth stood up and practically bellowed out," Objection ! "

" No , " L.L. said as he shook his head. " I am now objecting. I've had enough. This case is a waste of my time, the jury's time and the taxpayers. This is a courtroom. Not Rebel. I apologize to the jury for having wasted your valuable time. And I am now tossing this disaster of a case right out of my court and back at Mr. Zoss. Mr. Zoss , this case has absolutely no merit. Your star witness is unreliable in my opinion. You should have taken a plea. Case dismissed. Get the hell out of my court. All of you. "

He banged his gavel sharply.

A middle aged White woman in the gallery stood up and yelled," You can't do this to my son ! That bitch attacked my son ! "

Ted shook his head. " Mom , don't....."

Her hand went in her pocket and she pulled out a gun. She pointed it at L.L. as the court clerk yelled out," Judge, get down ! Gun ! "

L.L. threw himself down on the floor beside Sadie Dog with a groan just as the woman began firing.
