Episode 88

Joy Jones felt like an idiot as she sat behind her desk in the church office. She was trying to finish her sermon for this upcoming Sunday. She was needing to read through and return emails especially to Jas Lucas who was considering the offer of becoming her fellow copastor at the church here. Apparently he and Devin were getting tired of small town life especially after their marriage. Devin's mother still was not talking to him since his coming out and some terrible man named Brewster was making trouble for them on a daily basis. He even called them " Reverend Gay and Mrs. Gay" of all the stupid things ! It was actually looking like a done deal for his starting at the church especially since Devin was about to do his second phone interview with the assistant headmaster at Barrington Academy this week for a position as head librarian. Jas hated to leave the family church but he himself said his sibling Henry had been turning into a far more confident minister since he came out as a transgender woman named Tabitha. And she even knew of an available apartment in her own building. All he needed was the official contract emailed to him for a look through and signature.

She had to do all that but all she could think about was how Lazarus had embarrassed her last night. It was all her fault though. She should have talked Faith out of her plan to introduce the two families. One it was too soon really. Two her brother could not be trusted to behave. Which he hadn't.

Her hands shook slightly as she shoved back the stack of papers she had been proofreading and sighed. She pulled open the top drawer of her desk and took out the box of assorted chocolates that she only ate sparingly from. Usually no more than one a day. Today called for two. Maybe three. Ok. Definitely five.

As she took a bite of one she discovered was cherry flavored inside her eyes closed and she moaned in pleasure. Then she heard a familiar voice say teasingly," I feel jealous of a damn chocolate now. "

Her eyes popped open and she saw Faith standing before her smiling. Her hands went to her chocolate covered mouth in embarrassment. " Faith ! I didn't know you were stopping by. Aren't you supposed to be at work? Is everything ok? "

She knew Faith had said her department was being very supportive about the assault charge but she had been worried over it.

" I'm going in a little late today. Had to see my stepfather about something. " Faith made a funny face as she uttered the word stepfather and Joy began to laugh. " But I wanted to stop by to give you something. "

Joy's mouth suddenly felt dry. Like she needed water. " Give me what? I'm sorry about last night. "

Faith shook her head of long thick braids. " Doesn't matter. " Then she leaned down over her. " I wanted to give you this. " Their lips met in a kiss that had her knowing there was indeed a heaven. And at the moment it was right down on the earth with them.
