Episode 152

" Mr. Norland ,  , " Claire replied with a fake polite smile on her botoxed face as she looked up from her MacBook on her glasstopped circular desk. " What a ..... pleasant surprise. I wasn't expecting you. How is Richard doing? "

Nigel smiled back at her equally polite and equally fake. Before he had left the house he had went upstairs to change his usual tee shirt and jeans to one of the expensive suits that Richard had purchased for him when they first married. This one was a well cut Italian designer pale pink pure  silk  suit that he had paired with a matching silk shirt and white canvas shoes. When Richard had seen him in it as he came back downstairs the man had been very impressed to the point of giving him a look that seemed to want to strip it right back off him. He was happy that the memory loss hadn't seemed to affect their sexual chemistry. Richard still seemed to desire him. He just couldn't remember him.

" I know you were not expecting me, Claire. Also do call me Nigel. Mr. Norland is my husband. " He put a special emphasis on the word husband. " Richard is doing well. Very well. In fact.  He is out of hospital today and back home. I expect he shall be fit enough to return to work soon. "

Claire's smile froze on her face. " That's..... very good to hear, Nigel. Richard is a very valuable member of the firm. I hear rumors that he plans to run for governor or mayor next year. Of course I also hear he has amnesia. Unless his memory has returned ? "

Nigel continued smiling his fake polite grin as he said casually," No. It has not but the doctor has said it's just a matter of time for it to return. It doesn't affect him though. He's the same old Richard he was before. " He moved closer to the desk. " I just want to make sure that he is still welcome at NORLAND , Stone and Lowen. After all ,  he is the heart and soul of the firm. He made this firm. "

Claire met his one working eye with a cold disdain. " Of course he did. We very much appreciate all that Richard has done for the firm in the past. And of course the present and the future. Was that the only reason for your visit today? Not that you are not welcome. We very much miss you from your time as a secretary. Richard hasn't been able to get proper help since you left. " She smirked at him and he wanted to rip her hair out by the dark roots.

" Oh. That was not my only reason. I just wanted to say that my husband will return to work very soon and that he is better than ever. Spread the word. "

Then he turned to leave only to whirl back around and say," Oh,  one more thing. If Richard ever CHOOSES to leave the firm I hope you remember that your own senior partner contact agreements, of which I am very familiar with through my former secretary status, states most clearly that all departing senior partners are legally entitled to a payment of ten million dollars. Just wanted to remind you of that fact. Have a wonderful day, Claire. "
