A knock resonated at his door as Ahad was about to head into the shower. He just came back from delivering the jewelry to Sahar and after the rather painful exchange between them, he needed a good hot shower to calm his tighten muscles down. But given the circumstances, that must have to wait. An irritating frown conjured his lips as he opened the door.
"Bari Bibi bula rehi hai Sahab?"
(Madam is calling you, Sir)
He nodded his head at the maid and a terse sigh escaped his lips. He quickly descended the stairs and walked toward the Main house. As always, the rooms were silent and an eerie quietness surrounded the house as always. He stood in front of the study door and knocked lightly on it before opening the door. Far in the room, sitting on a chair was his grandmother. She was caught up in another fit of cough. As he approached her, he filled a glass of water and passed it to her. She grabbed it and took a sip out of the glass without any questions.
"You don't seem fine." Ahad stated, leaning his body onto the adjacent wall. Sawera met his eyes while keeping the glass on a nearby stand.
"My health is the least of concerns right now."
Her voice carried hints of pent up anger snd he had quite an intuition about what this hidden anger was.
"Is there any progress relating to Dad's case?"
Ahad faced the window at the question. Heaving another tired sigh, he shook his head
"It's not my calling."
His answer didn't please Sawera as she fisted her knuckles.
"Have you gone mad?"
Her voice boomed, chest heaving as she reached for the glass again.
"I did what was needed. Whatever that has to be done afterwards, it's Sahar's choice."
He provided while meeting his grandmother's eyes like trying to prove that he was certain about his decision.
"That girl would ruin you. She knows nothing how business works. Let her not be your demise."
At the verbal abuse toward his wife, his fist curled and his body shook in feral rage, but he contained his anger and instead chose to handle the situation with more calm
"I already told you, she is not my weakness. She's my strength."
Disbelieve ran past Sawera's eyes as she shifted in her position
"These sentiment would get you nowhere in the business. People will forget your name if you're too soft."
Something passed Ahad's eyes and his next words were both surprising and shocking
"Maybe, but I'll not be a stranger to my own family."
Sawera visibly flinched at his words. Possibly the very first emotion he saw in his grandmother's eyes in a long time. For a long moment, there was silence as the grandmother and grandson levelled eyes with each other. Ahad was sure he would get a glimpse of his real grandmother when he saw her intake a breath.

"You've overstepped your boundaries."
Whatever little hope Ahad had left evaporated into dust. Clicking his tongue, he kept his hands in his pockets and said
"Maybe I have."
Sawera turned her face away from him and that was the indication he needed that he wasn't welcomed in her presence anymore. He took steps towards the door, but halted and without turning, offered one last statement to her
