یہ غم نہیں کہ غم سہا نہیں جاتا
سِتم یہ کہ کسی سے کہا نہیں جاتا۔۔۔۔۔۔Sahar woke up to the sounds of soft clatter coming from downstairs. She sat up in bed. The surroundings were familiar to her, but she was so used to seeing the plain white ceiling and the dark walls. The light interior of her room wasn't of any interest to her. She didn't wander too much in the thought and just stood up to go to the bathroom. She got fresh up and changed into a dark purple suit. She tied her hair in a low pony and treaded downstairs. The aroma of fresh parathas and chai wafted past her nostrils causing a small smile to erupt on her lips. She had this sudden feeling of nostalgia. She entered the kitchen where stood her mother by the stove flipping the parathas over on to the pan.
Sahar quietly moved and hugged her mother from behind. Tanzila chuckled and said
"You always liked sneaking up on me."
Sahar just hugged her tighter feeling suddenly too emotional.
"Come on, get seated. I'll get you breakfast."
She nodded and took a seat on the stool. She passed a smile to her mother and dug into her food. It was simple and ordinary, but she missed her mother's cooking. Missed her sister and her rambling and taunts and tease.
"Have you got everything ready for tonight?"
Sahar met her mother's eyes and nodded her head. She's come to her own house for the sake of the function. Also, she needed time to deal with the sudden change of events in her life. She hadn't told anyone. She's been closed lipped about it. She wanted to tell her mother, but the words never made it out of her throat like they were stuck and didn't want to be out. It would kill her. To know how they all were betrayed by their own blood and only family left.
"Please, see if Rubab is awake or not. That girl is driving me up the wall."
Tanzila rolled her eyes at her younger daughter antics causing Sahar to come out of her train of thoughts. She put a smile on her face and nodded her head at her mother's words. She helped clean the dishes first and then made a beeline to her sister's room. She entered inside and she wasn't in bed. She heard the shower running and started doing her bed sheets. Few minutes later, Rubab came out of the shower and grinned at the neatly made bed.
"You see why I missed you so much."
Sahar rolled her eyes and threw a pillow at her sister's face. Rubab only laughed and went inside her closet and changed into a kurti and pants.
"You're getting wild woman. Go back to your husband."
Sahar's breath momentarily stopped at her sister's remark. It was very innocent, but it jabbed her heart in ways unknown. She pretended to unbothered by it all, but she was hurting beneath her mask of indifference. She didn't let it show though and just said to Rubab
"Get down and help with the house chores."
"Aye boss!"
Sahar nodded her head, satisfied with her sister's obedience and left her room.
