زندگی آزمائشوں کا سمندر ہے
کسی سے لیکر آزمایا جاتا ہے
تو کسی کو بےتحاشا دے کر
بس کہیں صبر کی اور کہیں شکر کی آزمائش ہے

The big doors of the jail opened as Mahrukh entered inside. Dressed in a simple cream shalwar kameez with a shawl wrapped around her shoulders, she walked to where she could meet her husband, Daud Rehman who was a prisoner here. She was led to the room where he was supposed to show up. Sitting on the other side of the glass doors, she waited for her husband to show up. Only a few minutes later, the door inside the glass room opened and strolled in her husband, his hands were cuffed on his front while a scowling gaurd shoved him roughly on the chair. Mahrukh's eyes teared up at the unhealthy vision of her husband. His eyes were bulging, his cheekbones were so prominent, she feared all the flesh was gone leaving behind structure of bones, his hair were all grey and he looked like he had lost pounds of weights.
That's what one month in prison had done to him. Its what it does to everyone.
Mahrukh took hold of the phone with shaking hands and kept the receiver end on her ear. Daud's hands took hold of the speaker and just like that her tears leaked out of her eyes.
"How are you?" Her words came out watery and her hold shook a bit on the device. Daud's fingers tightened on the speaker and he spoke with voice full of disdain
"Do I look fine to you? This place is going to drive me insane."
His words were laden with all the pent up frustration he had building up while staying in one of the hellish places on earth, but again, he was in this hell because of his own sins. He was paying the price of his worldly vile desires that all but crumpled in thin air.
"I swear I'll get you out. I'll hire the best lawyers."
Daud almost smiled at the naivety of his wife. He sins weren't meant to be redeemed. He was in a greater hell than he could have imagined. There was no saving him. He was caught in a web of his own devilish schemes and now he was paying a hefty price.
"I'll ask Ghazal for help. She has to help us. You did all her dirty works."
A spark of darkness lit in his eyes and he slammed his hand on the table, hard. The action startled his wife and a horrified gasp left her lips at his sudden outburst. He shook his head and with steel eyes, looked directly into her eyes and warned
"Stay away from that woman. She's not what you think she is. She'll destroy you and our daughters."
Tears left Mahrukh's eyes and she grabbed the phone again which she dropped upon his sudden anger attack.
"The girls miss you. Fatima cries every night, refusing to accept that you are in jail."
A meloncholy surrounded him and he felt his throat closing as sadness choked his chest. How much he loved his girls. He sniffed which made Mahrukh's own cries got louder and muttered into the phone
"Tell the girls I love them more than anything in the world and that their Baba is sorry for not treating them like the princesses they are."
Mahrukh shook her head, tears wetting her face as she choked
"The girls love you. No matter what, you'll be their super hero."
Finally trails of tears left his eyes and he stood up causing Mahrukh to get alarmed.
"Go away from here. Take the girls and leave. I have some savings, go and start a new life."
Before she could say anything, he flew across the door. More tears left her eyes and her heart clenched because she knew that it was the end for both of them. There was no forgiveness for them, but the girls needed to have a bright future. They shouldn't be punished for the crimes they commit. Dabbing her face with a handkerchief, Mahrukh stood up and walked off.
