BAFANA MESULI MAJOLA
Ntokozo has been ignoring me since that night at the club. I have tried different ways to approach her and be able to explain myself to her. Right now seemed like a good opportunity to talk as we were alone in the house.
Me: "Baby, can we please talk?" I plead as she feeds the kids while focusing on what's playing on TV.
Ntokozo: "I'm still angry Bafana."
Me: "It's okay, you can listen then and if you want to punch me then do it." She just glares at me clearly annoyed by me.
Ntokozo: "I'm not your sgora girlfriend." I chuckle nodding then take a seat next to her.
Me: "I was still going to tell you about Remy's pregnancy baby. It's just that we had just made up mina nawe and we decided on the spot to go out so I couldn't really tell you."
Ntokozo: "Ngiyakuzwa Fana and I understand that. Into engicike kakhulu was you letting that girl walk allover you, koze kube inini ngempela?!" She scolds.
Me: "I really can't do anything sthandwa sa-"
Ntokozo: "Ayikho into enjalo Bafana. If you keep letting that girl do as she pleases then it's clear, she'll end dictating even our relationship!"
Me: "I'm sorry."
Ntokozo: "Ungaxolisi, do something about that girl before I do!" She clicks her tongue.
Me: "Yes ma'am."
Ntokozo: "I'm pregnant." She blurts out.
Dad: "You better pull up your socks mfana wami. Be responsible and show it. Umdala manje." He said walking with mom and Junior walking ahead of him.
Me: "Yebo baba." He walks off without another word. Mom huffs and throws herself on the couch.
Ntokozo: "How's Swe and our little peanut?"
Mom: "Ey makaZizwe."
Ntokozo: "Indaba mah? Is everything okay?" She sighs heavily before turning to face us.
Mom: "The baby was a stillborn."
Ntokozo: "Oh no!!!"
Mom: "I am so shattered yazi-" she is cut off by her phone ringing. She frowns and takes it out, checking the caller id.
Mom: "Xoli?" She answers it and puts it on speaker phone.
Xoli: "Mah, please come to the hospital. Swe collapsed and I heard the doctor saying she's having a heart attack." Mom gasps running her eyes on each of us.
Mom: "Oh my god! We will be there shortly." They hang up before mom shouts for dad.
Dad: "Sthandwa sami, sekwenzenjani?"
Mom: "We have to leave for the hospital right now!" Dad doesn't ask anything but grabs his keys and jacket and we all rush out, leaving Junior and Ntokozo with the kids.
As soon as we get there, we bump into a nurse standing by the reception area. She immediately straightens up when she notices us.
Nurse: "Mrs and Mr Majola. I have been waiting for you, Dr Frank said to let you wait in his office since they're still busy with your daughter."
Dad: "Lead the way sisi." We follow after her and settle on the office couches. The nurse then excuses herself leaving us in a deafening silence.
Mom: "Majola, I'm scared mina. I can't lose my child, angikwazi." She says with her cracking voice. I brush my face frustratedly.
Dad: "Thula sthandwa sami. Our daughter will be fine, I believe she is string as her mother. After all uyiwele lakho nje."
Mom: "I really would go crazy if I lose another child Lizwi. I've already lost two kids in one year. That pain is unbearable Majola." She vents crying. The doctor walks in and greets us before handing mom a file.
Me: "Yini leyo mah?"
Mom: "It's your sister's medical file." She says going through it and then turns to the doctor.
Dad: "Is she going to be okay doc?!"
Doc: "Certainly Mr Majola. Your daughter experienced a minor heart attack earlier on today."
Dad: "What caused it?"
Doc: "Last night she had requested to see her baby's body and she had a breakdown, we had to sedate her. We then had the lab results come in this morning and we told her what we found and that's when she experienced a heart attack."
Mom: "Oh God!"
Doc: "It hadn't come to our attention that she had a heart problem. As far as my knowledge goes, she could have gotten this heart condition from her pregnancy."
Me: "Pregnancy causes heart problems?!" I'm shocked to say the least.
Doc: "Yes sir, pregnancy can cause a weakened heart muscle, a condition called peripartum cardiomyopathy. This rare condition can usually occur during the last month of pregnancy or up to five months after giving birth."
Mom: "Will she be okay?! Are there any treatment options available for that kind of condition?"
Doc: "Certainly Mrs Majola, I will give you a list of medications that you can get for her."
Dad: "What did the results say?" He sighs taking off his glasses and rubs his eyes before putting them back on.
Doc: "The baby died due to not receiving enough oxygen. The transportation of oxygen was blocked by blood clots that were caused by a huge dosage of blood thinners in Miss Majola's body."
Mom: "Blood thinners?!"
Doc: "Yes ma'am. Those clots were what blocked the flow of oxygen to the baby and therefore led to the death of the foetus."
Mom: "What kind of blood thinners were those anyway?!"
Doc: "Warfarin. We are now waiting for Miss Majola to wake up so we can flush those blood clots from her body and also give her medication that will help with producing blood in her body."
Dad: "Can we see her?" He agrees and leads us to Swe's ward. Mom immediately breaks down in dad's arms when she sees her daughter on that bed.
Mom: "Where could she gotten those blood thinners kodwa?!"
Dad: "Let's wait for her to wake up baby."
Xoli: "Babah! Mah!" She cries walking in and runs into their embrace.
Dad: "Don't cry babygirl, your sister will be fine."
Xoli: "You should've seen her babah!" She cries.
